I downloaded this book in case I get a chance to read it as well. I‘ve already covered all these countries for #readingafrica2022 except #Senegal, but I think this will give me a better idea of some of them than what I read, especially #GuineaBissau. In case anyone is needing these hard-to-find countries in books for the challenge, this ebook is free with Kindle Unlimited. #Mauritania #Gambia #Guinea

BarbaraBB Thanks, I‘m sure I can use it! 2y

Loved this poem. Yasmina Nuny writes about her motherland #GuineaBissau, black womanhood, politics and Kanye. And cursing, obviously 🙌🏾

Cabral was a political thinker and relative to a president of #GuineaBissau who sought peaceful separation from the country‘s colonizer, Portugal. The first essay describes his writings and attempt at peace, which didn‘t succeed although the country gained its independence after his death. It‘s a good brief history of the political strife of Guinea Bissau. The second essay is about the attempts to adopt Marxism-Leninism in Africa, and ⬇️

Texreader especially in #Mozambique. The essay felt like the author was praising this political system (for which I almost abandoned it being so antithetical to my own beliefs, but I tried to be open minded), even as he described how it failed everywhere it was tried. I was surprised then by the last paragraph in which the author concluded he could not support Marxism-Leninism. This is a very brief overview of its demise in Mozambique. #readingafrica2022 2y

This is one of the free ebooks with a Kindle Unlimited subscription I got last night. I just added it to the Litsy database. It's very short and works for both #GuineaBissau and #Mozambique. #Readingafrica2022 @librarybelle @barbarabb

I‘ve spent the evening scouring Amazon for free ebooks for #readingafrica2022. Some are free with a Prime subscription and some through a Kindle Unlimited subscription. I‘ll have to add some of these to the Litsy database.

Countries covered from top to bottom: #Lesotho, #GuineaBissau, #CapeVerde, and #Algeria. @Librarybelle @BarbaraBB

You know those movies that are completely ridiculous, with bad science and stories that go off the rails, seeming to have nothing to do with the plot, but you‘re just plain entertained by them anyway? This is the book version of that. Do I recommend it? Not really. But it was fun!

This, on the other hand, I *really* liked. Thanks for highlighting it @Currey ! Poetry from a poet from #GuineaBissau, currently Midlands, UK, writing about being a woman, being black, love, language, colonialism and her home country.

This is her reading of A Black Woman Walks into a Church: https://azmagazine.co.uk/azbhmpoetry-when-they-dismiss-my-blackness-by-yasmina-n...

#readaroundtheworld

rockpools She also has a poem called Expletives as an answer to those who object to her use of them (video contains expletives!)

Also good to discover a poetry press worth exploring.

I‘m not too sure if that link is going to work: if not, try Googling the Bookseller of Bissau. This is a quite fascinating FT article about the only bookshop in #GuineaBissau and the (lack of) publishing industry there.

And no, of course I haven‘t read the San Marino book yet! #readaroundtheworld

Picture has no relevance to anything 😁

I flew through this book, but not because I liked it. This is a painful read. I wanted to take Ndani‘s face between my hands and tell her not all whites are horrible...that not all Christians act like Dona Deolinda. I got a bit lost in the middle of the book, but eventually figured out what was happening. Not sure if it was me or the translation. Probably me. Part of my #Passportreading2018 challenge. #GuineaBissau
