Wandering Souls | Cecile Pin

Pickpick

Catching up with some long overdue reviews. Thanks to #NetGalley and #HenryHolt for an #ARC of this book. This title published this week in the US. This is Cecile Pin's first novel & she will be a writer to watch. Her writing style is quite lovely. This story of 3 siblings fleeing post-war Vietnam and their struggle as refugees is emotional, but the author keeps you rooting for them. I felt fully involved in these characters lives. It's a pick! 👍

DrexEdit The interspersed stories told from another POV from the main story didn't work for me. That was my only small nit to pick with this book. It just took me out of the main story. Otherwise this story about refugee struggles and the way none of our lives turn out the way we expect them to was a great read for me. 5 ⭐ 2y

I have no idea why this one hasn't gotten a lot of attention. Or maybe it has and I'm the one not paying attention. Three girls go missing in Queens. 10 years later 2 of them turn up at a house with a small child. How did the neighbors not notice? That's always the question, right? And where is the third girl?

I really have come to appreciate The Bloggess who is Jenny Lawson. Her willingness & transparency in sharing her struggles without any filters is uplifting and empowering. I highlighted so many affirmations, words that resonated so deeply. I also laughed my ass off / her pet names are hilarious 😂 I highly recommend this as an audio, as there is something authentic in listening to Jenny share her demons. #HenryHolt #NetGalley Available now ♥️

rockpools Jaw drop. How many years have I been on Litsy?! Confession time - I‘d filed Jenny Lawson in the ‘US comedian I‘ve never heard of‘ category & tended to skim past reviews of her books. I had no idea she was the Bloggess. I should maybe give them a go. 4y
Cinfhen Definitely give any of her audios a try @rockpools Jenny is hilarious but also SO BRUTALLY HONEST that it almost makes you want to weep 4y

Rarely do I offer my opinion of a book before I have completed it but there are always exceptions and this is one of them. I'm only halfway through Coyote's story and I already have hopes and dreams of it becoming a modern classic for young readers. Watch for this one in 2019! #DanGemeinhart #middlegradefiction #arc #henryholt #TheRemarkableJourneyofCoyoteSunrise

I really need to start this book D: I don't want spoilers for the Shadow and Bone trilogy, though, so I have to get through those first. I'm obsessed with the edges of these pages, though. I doubt I'm the only one.
What about y'all? Black or Red or No-color page edges?

This is the new release from the author of Charles and Emma, a YA historical novel/narrative nonfiction (it straddles the genre line) about Emma Darwin's influence over Charles Darwin and the formulation of the theory of evolution. I'm excited to read Heiligman's take on the relationship between brothers Vincent and Theo Van Gogh! (Plus, it has gotten terrific reviews.) #HenryHolt

heatherkaz I can't wait to hear what you think about this! I try to get my hands on any & all historical fiction about Van Gogh 8y
