The love these brothers shared is incredible... Theo supported Vincent's painting through ups and downs and only wanted to see Vincent well and happy. Theo's wife, Johanna, is solely responsible for being sure Vincent got the recognition he deserved after Theo passed on. A beautiful, lyrical story that breathes color into Vincent van Gogh's tumultuous, colorful life and the brother who stood by him.

I'm learning so much about the artist I assumed was just a crazy person. Apparently, there's a theory that Paul Gaugin, who lived with Van Gogh and had a tumultuous relationship with, cut off Van Gogh's ear after an argument! 😳

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A biography of two close brothers, organized into fourteen galleries, each with several short chapters. Many reviewers complain of the present-tense narrative, and it‘s indeed odd, but I thought it worked well considering much was derived from letters between them. Moving, and at times, tragic, this is a must-read for fans of the brilliant post-impressionist. One day, I‘ll see The Starry Night! 🤩 #coverlove

Scochrane26 I saw Starry Night a few yrs ago & was so excited. It‘s well-guarded & has glass around it. There‘s a couple others that are my favorites that I hope to see someday—they‘re in Europe. 3y
britt_brooke @Scochrane26 We saw a few in Paris: Bedroom in Arles, Church at Auvers, and his last self portrait, plus several more I was less familiar with. Gave me chills! But Starry Night is my favorite. 3y

Cinfhen I‘m really intrigued/ thanks for tagging me xxx I‘m still holding tickets for the Van Gough Museum in Amsterdam 😭😭😭trip was canceled when hubby got ill , wow that was 3 summers ago! Speaking of time flying, we have birthday celebrations this Thursday 🥳🥳🥳How old is your little dude turning??? 3y
slategreyskies I saw Starry Night at the Museum of Modern Art in NYC years and years ago. Probably 20 years now... Oh god, it was unforgettable!! And so much smaller than I thought it would be! 😂 3y
britt_brooke @Cinfhen One day you‘ll get there! I bet it‘s amazing. 💙✨ Yes, we do!! My youngest baby will be 7. 😭😭 Were celebrating just the 4 of us, but I have lots of work to do this week. He‘s gets ALL the treats since we‘re not allowing a big party this year. I hate it for him, but he understands. Sweet thing. Do y‘all have special plans? (edited) 3y
britt_brooke @slategreyskies Envious!! Also, same with Mona Lisa. She‘s tiny, but I‘m so happy I was prepared for that. 😂 3y
Cinfhen No way!!!! 7!!! That‘s nuts 🥜 My oldest is turning 28! That‘s even crazier 🤪🤪🤪She‘s in NY, so no celebrations for me...but I‘m hoping to be in the states in March. We‘ll make up for it then. Happy Birthday to your big boy 🥳 3y
britt_brooke @Cinfhen 28?! 😲 Y‘all will have to do it up big in March. 🎉🎉 And, thank you, he‘s so excited! 3y
britt_brooke @Cinfhen And my dad will be 62 Thursday! We usually celebrate together, but my folks are the main caregivers for my grandma and are very, very careful about covid. It‘s been a hard year barely seeing anyone even though they‘re only 2.5 hours away. 😢 3y
Cinfhen I remember that your dad shares the same birthday with your son. It is sad that ya‘ll can‘t celebrate together 😢😢Hopefully you can make up for it in a few weeks. 3y

OMG, this was written in the present tense. It was so bizarre. But it was a good way to dip my toe into the relationship between the Van Gogh brothers‘ relationship before reading their letters.

This 🎧 📖 did not hold my attention as well as I had hoped. It felt narrowly limited in scope, to the letters between the two brothers, and felt repetitious after a while. I had hoped for more on Van Gogh‘s art, but probably should have paid more attention to the title. 😝

I‘ve never seen this early painting of Van Gogh‘s. It‘s fascinating to learn of the importance of the windmill in Vincent and Theo‘s relationship as a place they walked together in their teen years, and the context and descriptions surrounding this particular painting. It is thought that the two men in the painting are Vincent and Theo.

The Starry Night (1889) is definitely the most famous work of Vincent Van Gogh; A masterpiece, most #iconic & long been the center of artistic & scientific debate. Art lovers say that the whirls of light & colour mirror the artist's tortured mind. The tagged book depicts the friendship of the two brothers, from their childhood in Netherlands to Paris, as Theo supports his brother as Vincent battles the demons of mental illness.

I finished listening to this while weed-eating under fence and taking an evening walk. I like Van Gogh‘s art, but I knew very little about his life. This book was incredibly interesting to me, but also sadder and heavier than I expected. There is a decent amount of discussion of prostitutes, syphilis, mental illness, and suicide. The story of the brothers‘ relationship was fascinating and wonderful.

A moving biography focused on the deep love between Vincent Van Gogh and his brother Theo. Vincent—driven, mercurial, artistic—struggled with mental illness all his life. Though not an artist himself, Theo was instrumental in nurturing his brother‘s creative fire—supporting him financially, challenging him to refine his style, and including Vincent‘s paintings in gallery exhibitions.

GatheringBooks is this the book that served as the inspiration for the amazingly-crafted movie? 6y
