The Starry Night (1889) is definitely the most famous work of Vincent Van Gogh; A masterpiece, most #iconic & long been the center of artistic & scientific debate. Art lovers say that the whirls of light & colour mirror the artist's tortured mind. The tagged book depicts the friendship of the two brothers, from their childhood in Netherlands to Paris, as Theo supports his brother as Vincent battles the demons of mental illness.

Which one should I listen to next? I have :Vincent and Theo (tagged), The Name of the Star, and Yaqui Delgado wants to Kick Your A$$. Anyone have any input on which ones are better? I am looking forward to Vincent and Theo because Vincent is a fantastic artist and I think it would be a lovely story to listen to!

I finished listening to this while weed-eating under fence and taking an evening walk. I like Van Gogh‘s art, but I knew very little about his life. This book was incredibly interesting to me, but also sadder and heavier than I expected. There is a decent amount of discussion of prostitutes, syphilis, mental illness, and suicide. The story of the brothers‘ relationship was fascinating and wonderful.

Yesterday I finished up my listen of Sourdough as a #reread for #LitsyBookClub and enjoyed this slightly crazy but fun story just as much as the first time.

Then I started listening to Vincent & Theo, an #audiobook I‘ve been looking forward to from #AudiobookSync this summer.

I listened while cleaning out tractors and checking what fields and roads look like as the flood water continues to recede. #BooksontheFarm

BarbaraBB Great. Is it about the Van Gogh brothers? 5mo
Daisey @BarbaraBB Yes, it is about the Van Gogh brothers. I‘m not very far yet, but from what I‘ve seen about it, it relies heavily on the letters Vincent wrote to Theo as source material. 5mo

Some lives are painful to listen to. These two suffered from heartbreak, mental illness, and dashed dreams. How they remained so optimistic based on one vow to each other is inspiring.

A moving biography focused on the deep love between Vincent Van Gogh and his brother Theo. Vincent—driven, mercurial, artistic—struggled with mental illness all his life. Though not an artist himself, Theo was instrumental in nurturing his brother‘s creative fire—supporting him financially, challenging him to refine his style, and including Vincent‘s paintings in gallery exhibitions.

GatheringBooks is this the book that served as the inspiration for the amazingly-crafted movie? 2y

Vincent and Theo Van Gogh had such a complicated, yet ultimately loving relationship. They depended on each other for everything as they struggled with so much, including mental illness on and off for years. I learned so much from this extensively researched biography and I really enjoyed the writing style too. Lots of tragedy with glimmers of optimism, because ART. And SUNFLOWERS🌻 #YA

I'm having a hard time pausing this audiobook, I'm reeeally enjoying it. It condenses the massive amount of correspondences between Vincent and his brother into a beautiful narrative.

I'm really getting a kick out of how much Vincent loves to read, especially Charles Dickens. It's funny how I don't always place certain people in similar time periods, but Dickens was alive when Van Gogh was young!

Not only has the author done extensive research into Vincent Van Gogh and his brother Theo, but she has managed to weave a piece of nonfiction that is both engrossing and moving. I was moved myself. So an interesting backstory I never knew about re: V's instability and forays into other careers and his relationship with family members. Curious that this is young adult - it's long, but has short chapters (3-4 pgs). I almost wish it was adult but then again it'd likely be super long. Half-way through, though I know how it ends...
