First published in 1983, the sharp satire in this collection of prose poems certainly stands the test of time. Our world is still divided into bad guys and good guys, and literature by women still doesn‘t get the same respect as literature by men. Margaret Atwood‘s poetry/flash fiction is playful and thought-provoking at the same time. #CanadianAuthor
Given my latest read, when I saw this in the rundown, usually filled with terrible books “little free library” near my work, I immediately picked it up.
Opened it up and ooooffff… the brutality! Poor Sophie! It was so heartfelt!
Maybe I‘m just too sentimental?

Had to pause my own reading to read this for uni, and all I can say is get on it!
I‘ve never read Atwood before and found her writing clever and humorous. I‘ll be working through her back catalogue asap!

I like to read novels in which the heroine has a costume rustling discreetly over her breasts, or discreet breasts rustling under her costume; in any case there must be a costume, some breasts, some rustling, and, over all, discretion. Discretion over all, like a fog, a miasma through which outlines of things appear only vaguely.
Every now and then then you find a place that makes you fall in love with bookstores again… and leaves you broke! Completely worth the trip to visit, and I‘ll be back asap.
I can‘t wait to get stuck in!

Atwood made this form famous 🎃The #trick is the two ways it can be understood; read a line at a time, or read from the middle of one line to the middle of the next. #scarathlon2022 #poetrymatters #teammonstermash @TheSpineView
COVID finally hit our household and along with lots of reality tv, I watched this 1984 documentary about Margaret Atwood. A filmmaker and his crew join Atwood and her family at her family's remote cottage for a few days. What follows are lots of pretty scenery and strained interviews with Atwood who clearly finds the guy's questions idiotic. 😆
Available on YouTube. Learned about it from the IG account @ girlsonthepage
