The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter | Carson McCullers
post image

I know this has already been used several times, but this was a given, as anyone who has followed my posts knows. McCullers' debut, published when she was only twenty-three years old (!!!) is a masterpiece of the human desire, & failure, to communicate & connect meaningfully. McCullers' breezy, yet self-assured, prose conveys loneliness like few others have ever managed. #OwnerOfALonelyHeart #AnglophileApril @Mdargusch @Reviewsbylola @emilyhaldi

merelybookish This book is pretty amazing! And one of the first books I posted about on Litsy. 😛 5y
vivastory @merelybookish I think it was one of the first I mentioned, too. I read it a few months before joining in fall 2016. I think you joined around the same time as me? 5y

I had to read this book twice during my college years. The first time I read it, I HATED it. I thought it was quite possibly the most boring book I‘d ever read. (Or if I‘m honest, ever attempted to read. I never finished it. 😆) The second time, obviously I dreaded it. And wouldn‘t you know, it was actually pretty good the second time around. #ownerofalonelyheart #anglophileapril

emilyhaldi I‘m not sure I even want to read this once 5y
bewareofwords Oh man, I hated it just as much the second time... 5y
Karisa I liked it too. It was the first book I'd read that made me feel the absolute need to highlight and make comments in the margins. 5y

Cinfhen Yeah, that‘s a #HardPass 🙄 5y
BiblioLitten Really? I read it years back and had the same thoughts... boring. 5y
mspixieears I read it for uni and hated it (topic matter) but can‘t deny it‘s well-written. 5y
Mdargusch I read this in school and I do not have any fond memories. Or any memories. 😜 5y

My current read, Sal definitely has a lonely heart 💔 loving the book so far, but it‘s sad and I just can‘t foresee a happy ending.

Behind Closed Doors | B. A. Paris

Jack and Grace have a questionable relationship. Why does Jack always go where Grace goes? Why does Jack insist on doing everything with his wife? As the story unfolds aspects get extremely uncomfortable (and slightly unrealistic) Grace is made to live an isolated life.

BridgetteM @Mdargusch I think it‘s one of those love it or hate it kind of books. I‘m on the love it side. BA Paris is one of my favorite authors! 5y

Mdargusch Great choice. I read this a hundred years ago but I don‘t remember anything about it. 👵🏻 5y
Samplergal @Mdargusch me either. All I remember is there is a deaf character which sparked my interest in speech pathology. 🤷‍♀️ 5y
Reviewsbylola Great pick. This has been on my TBR for at least 10 years. 5y
emilyhaldi That cover is quite melancholy 🖤 5y

Kindle says I've read this, however I don't remember it.

This is my second choice of book as the first was The Kiss Quotient again!

Also Havisham fits quite nicely with the prompt too!

Mdargusch I just posted somewhere else that I read this years ago and I don‘t remember a thing about it. 😂 5y
Reviewsbylola I really want to read this but the consensus seems to be that it‘s not memorable. 😂 5y
