Growing up in Puerto Rico, I know how dangerous storms can be, and Island Storm had my heart in my throat. As the kids move farther from safety, the tension builds beautifully. Floca‘s text is masterful, but Sydney Smith‘s dark, textured art adds real urgency. A powerful, immersive picture book. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I‘ll be honest. I didn‘t realize winds were predictable/patterned/moved in certain ways. This book is fascinating and I have a much better understanding of our atmosphere and how wind shapes (literally) our planet. I also had to do some side research dives, which is always a good sign for me! With a blizzard predicted for this evening, this was a good day to read this one!

This picture book is wordless and it is perfect the way it is. The stunning artwork shows how the world revolves and changes around a tree as well as the cycle from birth to death of a tree. Just beautiful. It reminded me a lot of Shaun Tan for some reason.

I first joined Litsy because I just didn't feel much community on Goodreads or Storybook. Here? Community GALORE! And who knew that we all loved swaps and exchanging bookish gifts? 🤩 Littens, here's to ending this year with love and hope in 2026. 🕯️🌎🕯️

Which books did you buy as gifts this holiday season?

I went with a witchy theme for my 5-year-old niece. The inspiration was a Witch‘s Apothecary Potion Kit that I found on Etsy; it incorporates STEM, sensory play, and social emotional learning. It comes with rhyming spell cards (for things like kindness & courage), and a slew of special, bottled ingredients. I also got us “matching” hagstone/fairy-stone necklaces.

I loved the illustrations and the simple and heartwarming message. Plus baked goods are truly amazing!
