Goal February 23 - February 29 is to read and/or listen to an audiobook at least 5 minutes a day. Mission accomplished today! I listened to over five minutes of this audiobook.

I should have read it when it was recommended years ago by a coworker, as I‘m sure I‘d have enjoyed it more, when the particular horrors of Scientology were a bit more novel. The book was long and felt authentic, and perhaps told as life actually was for Jenna, living under control of the higher order of Scientology. But it felt too long and repetitive. Still glad to have read it in his honor, and I miss him. #roll100 Jan

Megabooks This was an interesting one for sure, but not the best Scientology book I‘ve read. 3mo
Megabooks I‘m sorry you miss your coworker, too. It‘s hard losing people you care about. 💜💜 3mo
Ephemera Scientology is on its last legs, thank goodness 2mo

Finished one book (nonfiction) featuring Tom Cruise only to begin another (bizarre fiction) filled up with this man. Seriously hoping I won‘t read anything else this year with this guy 🫠

batsy Ha! That nonfic book seems an apt (an intriguing) pairing for Rouge, actually. (I could have done without him at all in Rouge... 🙃) 3mo
Bookwormjillk Tom Cruise is in Rouge? Interesting. 3mo

Oops I did it again…another #libraryhaul from this week. The bottom 4 are for my boys—Harry Potter obsessed! Heartstopper vol. 2 is just as adorable as the first. And even though I have a hard heart and cannot stomach romance of any kind typically, I LOVE Charlie and Nick. Another #auldlangspine (American Sunrise) and a #roll100 (tagged) plus two for #bookspinbingo.
Ps—I actually returned some books this week too 😉

TheKidUpstairs Moon of the Crusted Snow is so good! I've got the sequel sitting on my physical TBR pile at home, but haven't got to it yet (in true Litten fashion, I rushed to pick up my pre-order the day it came out, and yet still haven't read it months later 😂) 3mo
Lesliereadsalot Past Lives is amazing! Beautifully photographed, haunting music, and terrific acting. I loved it and you will too. 3mo
Chelsea.Poole @TheKidUpstairs I‘m soo looking forward to that one! I think it‘ll be next, after 2 books. 😅 3mo
Chelsea.Poole @Lesliereadsalot ooh wonderful! I forget how I heard about this film. Glad to hear you loved it! 3mo

Fear wins March by default because it was the only one I finished… Not a terrible read, I gave it 3 ⭐️s. I think that rating still stands.

Andrew65 I keep spotting his books but not read any. 4mo
MegaWhoppingCosmicBookwyrm @Andrew65 This was a first for me. It didn‘t put me off so I‘ll likely pick up a longer one in the future. I know he can be very polarizing for people. Understandably. 😅 4mo

A lot of time has passed since the full horrors (and oddities) of Scientology were revealed. Even still, this incredibly researched and dense inspection of the so-called religion packs a mighty punch.

This has been in my audio library since 2017! Glad I finally listened to Leah‘s unbelievable journey into and out of Scientology. She definitely did not hold back, but she was not disparaging or disrespectful. She unapologetically shares her experience and struggles with Scientology. Really a fascinating story 🎧

AudiobookingWithLeah I agree it was fascinating... 10mo

Well I'm new here and figured I'd share my current read. My favorite thing about this book is how Leah incorporates humor into her storytelling so that it's just not back to back horrible Scientology things. I'm only a few chapters in but I've spent about 90% of the time just laughing and saving quotes that keep me entertained.

This was mostly interesting, but there were times where I just couldn‘t focus. I think I find the personal stories the most interesting (including the other books I‘ve read), though this is a very well-researched detailed account. It‘s pretty scary, though, that journalists, people who have left, etc, anyone who says anything against Scientology appear to be harassed, and in some cases, even framed for crimes they didn‘t commit!
