Pickpick

This memoir is beautifully written and gave me lots of feelings. Maybe don‘t read it in public- I cried several times.

I saw the author speak at #TXBookFest2019 and knew I would buy his book. He‘s an excellent public speaker. He reads the audio himself, if that sways you.

Cinfhen Swayed and stacked 🥰 5y

My #weekly forecast.
A friend loaned me Starless Sea 🤗. I will get my own copy but waiting until after the holidays in case it ends up under the tree!
I‘m waiting for a library hold for Quichotte, so I‘m not sure which audiobook will be up this week.
I‘m reading the tagged for #BBRC book to movie and also for #MountTBR.
The author of Mostly Dead Things was at #TXBookFest2019, and the title intrigued me. It‘s good, but a little dark.

Cinfhen I do love the cover and title but it‘s a short story collection/ right?!? 5y
Cinfhen I see it says novel / why did I think it was short stories?? 5y
Soubhiville @Cinfhen it is a novel. I‘m not sure... except there have been tons of short story collections released this year? 5y

Cinfhen Must be a similar titled or book cover that I‘m confusing it with 🤷🏼‍♀️There really were A LOT of short story collections this year! A bunch were on the ToB long list 5y
LibrarianRyan yeahhhh. 5y
TheAromaofBooks Starless Sea just came in at the library for me, but I probably won't get to it this week. I've heard mixed reviews so I'm nervous!! 5y

This author or his ap company we‘re giving away these tiny copies of his latest novel at Tx Book Fest. Apparently with the ap, you can read along to a soundtrack created for each of his books, and it seems maybe there are also visual effects that go with them? I won‘t be using the ap (even though it‘s free) because I find music distracting while I‘m reading. It‘s a pretty cool idea though! The ap is called TooFarMedia if anyone is interested.

Soubhiville I started the novel yesterday and it‘s interesting... 5y
Hooked_on_books Interesting concept. Gorgeous cover! 5y

My final #TXBookFest2019 #BookHaul. I would have gotten more, but several books sold out before the end of the day Sunday. Which is great! I‘m glad for the authors and for Book People! (TX largest indie bookstore provided sales for the fest.)

Photobombed by #Froedrick. He‘s grouchy because he couldn‘t go to the fest.

One of the best parts of #TXBookFest2019 is sharing book love and nerdiness with friends! I should have gotten pics with the other #LitsyATXReadersSociety gals, but here‘s one of me and @Eyelit from the end of the day yesterday just before we left.

AmyG 🎉❤️ (hooray the book nerd) (edited) 5y

At #TXBookFest2019 Marino Tamaki (author of Laura Dean Keeps Breaking Up With Me) interviewed Rainbow Rowell, and it was wonderful and charming. My favorite part, I have to say, was when they opened it up for questions and all of the questioners were nervous, awkward teenaged fans stumbling over their words. Adorable.

Soubhiville @jpmcwisemorgan and @Eyelit were there with me! 5y

Mesha Maren and Chantelle Benz talked about the sense of place in their books, specifically rural America. I am interested in reading both of their books.

Alix Ohlin and Michael Parker talking about novels of sisterhood. They spoke about family and sibling relationships in general. Alix said something about shared history with siblings shaping who we are as whole people, and that relationship being like no other. That really spoke to me. I bought her book.

Julia Phillips and Rachel Monroe talking about violence and women. They spoke a lot about how social hierarchies influence how prone you are to experiencing violence. I like when panels have both fiction and nonfiction authors.

Hooked_on_books I would have loved this panel. I thought both of these books were terrific. 5y

I got to hear these beautiful speakers talking about Toni Morrison at #TXBookFest2019. They made me want to read all of her books right this second. They also made me want to buy both of their books, which I am likely to do first thing in the morning.

Day 1 of #TexasBookFestival2019 was wonderful.

Hooked_on_books I‘m envious! Looks like you‘re having a great time. 5y

Soubhiville @Hooked_on_books it‘s been great so far! I‘m looking forward to seeing Ruta Sepetys, Julia Phillips, Mesha Martin, and Rainbow Rowell today. 💜. There‘s a bunch of Littens considering coming next year... I don‘t know if that would be in the realm of possibility for you but it would be great if you‘re interested! 5y
Soubhiville @Hooked_on_books I see you weren‘t a big fan of The Old Drift... it‘s only got mediocre Litsy reviews. Maybe this is one I should borrow not buy? (edited) 5y
Hooked_on_books I just heard Julia Phillips on a podcast and she was lovely. Plus her book is incredible. I would say borrow The Old Drift for sure. I really wanted to love that book. I think coming to the festival would be amazing, but I‘m not sure I can swing it. My husband‘s birthday is this week and he would definitely not be interested in that. But it would be really cool to meet up. We shall see. 5y
