Can‘t beat a bit of Vera 👍🏻 did not guess baddies at all!

Book #2 in the Vera Stanhope series. I‘m not sure I like this series, or perhaps the author, but my mom does so I keep reading them. I‘ll try book #3 too… Vera is a quite unlikable woman & the stories wander a lot, but they do provide a good mystery & it‘s hard to figure out ‘whodunit‘ until the end when Vera Tues it up.
Another winner from Ann Cleeves. Vera is as grumpy and insightful as ever, and the story is compelling. I want to jump right into the next one, but I have book club selections to read! #serieslove2025
When I did my journal #wrapup for March, I remembered I also helped me friends find their new cats. A good development, but it did cut into my reading time.
In any event, here‘s a more realistic #serieslove2025 plan for April. Four books instead of eight. 🤣
After a little trip to Panem, I‘m back in Northumberland with Vera. I spent most of the afternoon washing the bedding and reorganizing my bookcases. As usual, a little tweak turned into an overhaul of half the shelves. It‘s good to just sit and read and eat chicken with snow peas. #hyggehourreadathon
Book #1 in the Vera Stanhope series. I had a hard time with this one but I think it was because I was distracted. The story wandered a bit & had a couple characters with similar names which was confusing. But overall it was good.
That Maryland game was a little stressful, so I‘m going to chill out with some murder and Vera. #hyggehourreadathon
I set this aside to pivot to African American authors in February. For March my #serieslove2025 reading will focus on women authors.
This was a melancholy story about murder and family obligations. Vera is growing on me.
I read this with my local reading group and the theme was ‘winter‘. This is the ninth in the Vera Stanhope series but the first one which I‘ve read. It works very well as a stand alone. It‘s a slow burning detective story with plenty of twists and turns. It fitted the ‘winter‘ theme well and I very much enjoyed it. I did sort of guess ‘whodunnit‘ even though I had a change of mind at first!
I‘ve been reading various other things this week, so I‘m back on Sunday again. Watching football and eating potato skins. #hyggehourreadathon
