A December to Remember | Jenny Bayliss
post image
Pickpick

Sweet story about 3 very different half-sisters who shared their summers with their dad, a quixotic vagabond with a curio shop, who excelled at creating magic wherever he went — & wooing women. When he dies, the estranged adult sisters come together to fulfill his final wishes, including the reinstatement of the town‘s solstice festival. Everyone grows closer & grows up. It‘s a feel-good story, perfect for this time of year.

*Caveats below…👇🏻

monalyisha 1/1: Sometimes, the characters came across as very young and immature… (perimenopausal) adults and children alike, though none more-so than Verity, who was meant to be 10-years-old but who read MUCH younger. Admittedly, being in the presence of siblings can do that to you! Still, I enjoyed this. I don‘t think of myself as a seasonal reader, so it was a nice surprise to be as charmed as I was by all the mistletoe and merriment. 2d
JamieArc This was on my December list but will not get to it. Until I do, your review is sufficient 😊 2d

I really, really enjoyed this sweet winter story! The summary makes it sound silly, but it really isn‘t. I love that the three main characters are women in their late 30s and early 40s - it makes what they‘re going through relatable for me. And I loved the town, the British-ness, and all the growth we got to see from the characters.
I have never read Jenny Bayliss before, but I would be interested in reading more. The audiobook was also excellent.
