Mehso-so

Don‘t hate me...#unpopularopinion time. This was so hard to get through for me. What I liked: the historical anecdotes cleverly placed throughout the book, as well as the “boys‘” stories. What I didn‘t like: the boat talk. Sorry, rowing isn‘t for me. I understand why the mechanics and the rowing terminology were discussed, but it didn‘t hold my interest.

This completes the #OlympicSport for #Booked2018 and #AboutSports for #LRC . #LRC2018

StephanieGeiser It didn‘t hold my interest either! I just couldn‘t get invested in the story so I bailed. 7y
Librarybelle @StephanieGeiser Glad I‘m not the only one! 7y
SandyW Yep, sometimeswhen someone is passionate about a topic, they can't floss over things for the rest of us. 7y

SandyW Floss was supposed to be gloss... But floss everyday!😂 7y
Librarybelle @SandyW Lol! Flossing is important! 😂 7y
emilyhaldi I can see why you had an issue with the technical parts, but the rest of the story won me over! 7y
Librarybelle @emilyhaldi I found the personal stories, especially Joe‘s, very moving. Between that and the historical content, I rated this a 3 on GR. 7y
BarbaraTheBibliophage No hate from me. My BIL raves about this one. But it was pretty flat for me. Good for you on finishing! Have fun with your personal readathon this weekend! 7y
Chronic_Reader I also rated the book so-so but for the opposite reasons 😂 As a collegiate coxswain, I only enjoyed the rowing parts and got bored with the history. Rowing requires an entirely new language/vocabulary that is hard to read if you haven‘t lived it. I was so confused with all the new words when I started the sport. 7y
Librarybelle @Chronic_Reader Rowing is a very different language and sounds like it takes much endurance and sacrifice. Awesome to you for living the sport...I do not have a single ounce of athletic ability in me, so I really appreciate the talent it takes for any sport. 🙂 7y

This was my first Megan Abbott novel - it was a good mixture of family drama and mystery, but the characters were all a bit exaggerated and the only likeable one was the son. I‘m counting this for my book #aboutsports for the #litsyreadingchallenge2018 because of all the details about gymnastics! @jessberk13

Lola Wait....you read the tagged book, right? That‘s by Megan Abbot not MK ;) (edited) 7y
bookwrm526 @Lola LOL that‘s where my brain is today - I started the Mary Kubica after I finished the tagged book lol, I‘ll fix it 7y
Lola @bookwrm526 That‘s what I thought but I was really curious b/c I‘d like to hear your opinion about MK. I‘ll watch for your post when you finish that one 😊 7y
bookwrm526 @Lola I‘m listening to it on audio so I probably won‘t finish it until Monday or Tuesday when I have to go back to my commute 7y

Pickpick

I loved this story. I loved the romance between Tina and Joanna (Joe). It was sweet and sexy. Even more, I loved the non-romantic relationships that Tina develops when she joins the roller derby team. My only complaint is that it could have been longer. #litsyAtoZ #readharder #aboutsports #LGBTQplusromance #yescountingformultiplechallenges #sorrynotsorry

bookishkai Ok, I'm just kinda going to post titles. I will say, Riptide Publishing (who put out Roller Girl) are my go-to for lgbtq romance, so definitely check out their backlist and coming soon titles. 7y
bookishkai A classic, a little dated but still good: 7y
bookishkai Basically anything by David Levithan. Also check out Hannah Moscowitz 7y

Just finished listening to this but it wasn't my cup of tea at all. I'm not interested in sports anyway but I completed it for @bookriot's #readharder2017 challenge - #aboutsports ✅. Needless to say, I've returned it (used a credit to begin with)! 2 ⭐

DGRachel I love Audible's great listen guarantee! 8y

Downloaded Fever Pitch as my free Audible trial book as I'm not a big sports fan and so I wouldn't have wasted money on the book. It's also my first time with an audio book, so killing two birds with one stone! #readharder2017 #aboutsports
