Roller Girl
Roller Girl | Vanessa North
Recently divorced Tina Durham is trying to be self-sufficient, but her personal-training career is floundering, her closest friends are swept up in new relationships, and her washing machine has just flooded her kitchen. It's enough to make a girl cry. Instead, she calls a plumbing service, and Joanne "Joe Mama" Delario comes to the rescue. Joe is sweet, funny, and good at fixing things. She also sees something special in Tina and invites her to try out for the roller derby team she coaches. Derby offers Tina an outlet for her frustrations, a chance to excel, and the female friendships she's never had before. And as Tina starts to thrive at derby, the tension between her and Joe cranks up. Despite their player/coach relationship, they give in to their mutual attraction. Sex in secret is hot, but Tina can't help but want more. With work still on the rocks and her relationship in the closet, Tina is forced to reevaluate her life. Can she be content with a secret lover? Or with being dependent on someone else again? It's time for Tina to tackle her fears, both on and off the track.

Short, sweet, sexy, sporty! I appreciated the trans representation, F/F romance, beautiful friendships, and roller-derby-tastic goodness. I liked this world so much and fell so in love with even the side characters that I plan to read the first two books as well. I wish this was the first book in the series so I could get updates on Tina and Jo's beautiful relationship in the second and third installments, but you can't win 'em all. 👩‍❤️‍👩

LiteraryinLawrence Sounds great! If you like roller derby awesomeness, then I recommend this graphic novel take on it. 4y

Vanessa North is amazing. I don't know how she fit so much into such a short book. My heart soared through the whole story. Her characters are beautiful, and flawed, and real. The romance is achingly sweet. The sexy times are hot. And the friendships and community are everything. As for the sports aspect, I am not a sports kinda girl, but this made me want to check out derby. This is my new, everyone-MUST-read-this, book!

Continuing the Book Club for Masochists romance adventures with some queer romance books. Roller Girl is thus far adorable and charming and I'm in love with this world. I could get used to a good queer #romance now and then #lgbtq

I love sports romances, stories about tight communities, and protagonists who learn to embrace their strengths, and Vanessa North delivers on all fronts. Tina, a former pro wakeboarder, comes into her own as she falls hard for roller derby, befriends her teammates, nurtures a new romance, and explores her potential as a role model for trans kids. I tore through her story fast as I could.

I loved her dog, too. Everything's better with a dog.

I loved this story. I loved the romance between Tina and Joanna (Joe). It was sweet and sexy. Even more, I loved the non-romantic relationships that Tina develops when she joins the roller derby team. My only complaint is that it could have been longer. #litsyAtoZ #readharder #aboutsports #LGBTQplusromance #yescountingformultiplechallenges #sorrynotsorry

Tina, a trans woman coping with the aftermath of being divorced, joins a women's roller derby team at the behest of the cute plumber who rescues her from her malfunctioning washer. Girl power, sport solidarity, secret sexy times in a short queer romance.

Roller Derby and romance? Yes!

I needed a book about sports for my #ReadHarder2017 challenge and in general sports aren't my jam. Roller derby is the exception. Add in a bit of romance and you've got a winner. 10/10 would recommend.

Mehso-so

The conflict between the two main characters, I thought, was weak and presictable. Overall, it was a good light read. #lesbianromance #lgbt
