Two high schoolers decide to be friends at a 2015 Pride event, a decision that will help them through a week of personal tumult. A tender, thoughtful story. I preferred the chapters from Mark's point of view, because Kate's adventures and romance seemed pretty implausible and his more grounded in reality.

Lots of queer joy, though the ending is now bittersweet. *Will* there be babies “who will only know a country where everyone can marry?“

Randomly found a new bookstore when driving through a nearby town and of course I had to immediately swerve and stop in. I wound up spending way too much due to their banging Pride display which led me to this little gem (that I should have read years ago!). The main event here for me is the lovely friendship that springs up between Mark and Kate during one wild, random night in the city. A quick read and not particularly deep, but very sweet.

I listened audiobook You Know Me Well. Is a young adult novel about friendship and finding yourself. The whole story was likeable but I expected something more. Narrators did a great job, they both have lovely voice. And I also like both POVs. But still something I missed.

Summary:Mark and Kate have sat next to eachother for an entire year, but their paths outside of class have never crossed. That is, until Kate spots Mark miles away from home, out in the city for a wild, unexpected night. Kate is lost, having just run away from a chance to finally meet the girl she has been in love with from afar. Mark, meanwhile, is in love with his best friend, Ryan, who may or may not feel the same way.

I‘ve made a conscious effort to read diversely since college, but in recent years starting looking for more LBGTQ books. My teenage daughter is bisexual, and she‘s a lazy reader who regularly asks for book recs and raids my shelves.

Above are two LGBTQ books that I read, loved, and passed on to Jordan—and she loved them too. ❤️

She texted me tonight about the tagged book: ‘pls read this and tell me if it‘s good?‘ 😂

sprainedbrain @lauren.lerner I will tell her! And then probably read one for her. 🙄 6y
RebL Has she tried Bill Konigsberg (cis white gay)? He‘s vocal in his support for all kids. Also, maybe Maya Christina Gonzalez—a ton of picture books, but aren‘t those for all ages? She created a gender wheel that I love. The tagged book has a bi-guy (where are the bi-gals in YA?). Most LGBT2SQI+ lit is written by white guys, but there‘s good stuff & more people are finding their voice. 6y
sprainedbrain Thank you! I will share this with her! 6y

For me, this book lacked a gripping storyline and the characters often annoyed me with their actions and felt bland or hard to connect to. The details of the storyline ended up boring me. This was disappointing for me, because I had read books from both Lacour and Levithan and had high expectations. A good quick and lighthearted read, but I was not engaged whatsoever.

This ended up being a really awesome read. High school stuff but it felt genuine and interesting despite that. And there was a nonbinary character and they didn't make pride feel exclusive.

This book is, as suspected, a quick read perfect for a flight, a road trip or a day at the beach (& I say that fully appreciating the entertainment value of such books). Mark is in love with his best friend, Kate is in love with a girl she‘s never met. You just know things are going to get complicated & they do. A lot of angst, a fair bit of humor, & some relatable characters (though one was more annoying than I expected) add up to a fun read.

This zippy little read takes place over Pride week. While the book alludes to some serious themes and introduces the characters at povital moments in their young adult lives, overall the book felt fresh and light and I was happy to be sweep up within its pages. I loved the premise that someone on the outskirts of your social circle, essentially a stranger, can at the right moment in time be exactly the person you need in your life.

GondorGirl I really loved this book. And the audio book was phenomenally done. 7y

This was a cute fluffy #YA book about queer friendship! I loved that it a) wasn't a coming out story b) actually featured queer community and pride events c) didn't centre on falling in love as the pinnacle of being gay. At times I felt myself feeling frustrated with Kate's story and her self-sabotaging but that's probably cause it hit too close to home. Great #audiobook narration too! Downside: overwhelmingly white and middle class. #QueerBooks

This YA #audiobook is super cute so far. And I think it's the only book I've read that's focused on queer friendship! Has anyone else read novels on that topic? #QueerBooks

xicanti There are a lot of queer friendships in Kris Ripper's Queers of La Vista series, and while the books are marketed as romance I'd say the friends angle is just as important in most cases. 7y

Really enjoyed this one!! 😀Even if the main plot stuff didn't feel super realistic, the characters and the different relationship dramas certainly did, and to me that's what really matters. I had a couple of friendships in high school similar to some of the ones in this book, so I guess it resonated particularly well with me too haha. ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4/5! 😊

2017 #7 YA LGBTQ Audio I finished it. I was in SF in my late teens and my time was spent in-between the Haight and the Castro. I don't know what to think. I enjoyed some of it but it felt too... too much, too campy, too neat, too overdone... maybe gay teens in 2016 are this and I'm an old fart...

Loved, loved this book. A great one to end 2016. Both main characters were so vibrant and alive. Were they at times overly dramatic? Sure. But so what? They were teenagers in and out of love (not with each other- it's about a guy and a girl who become fast friends during Pride Week) and discovering their paths. I felt like the authors knew exactly who their characters were and what they were feeling, if that makes sense. An absolute must read!

Six months ago I might have rolled my eyes. You Know Me Well is a novel of fantastical (rather unbelievable) wish fulfillment and gorgeous (un)requited love, whose two central relationships I wish ended opposite of how they did. But given our post November political climate, this book is a treasure I'll always cherish, because I hope some day we will all feel this hopeful again. 🌈 #ya #lgbtq
