Finished last night. Good entertaining read- great MC and development of ‘minor‘ characters. And always a lot going on.

I just love the way this man‘s writing transports me to the Aussie countryside, never mind the plot!
Good story but a bit for my mind to keep track of. Luckily there is a family tree at the end. The relationships get a bit complicated. Clever story , wonderful writing.

I need a murder mystery for #booked2022 and I've been meaning to read this cosy forever (the sequel is coming out soon!) I'm a sucker for Day's previous cafe cosy series also set in Tasmania so this should d be good.

"[...]. After Sam is sent to collect fifteen wedding dresses from a dead man's estate, the strangest week of her life begins to unfold. [...]" #cozymystery #australiancrime

Constable Hirsch is back, patrolling the mid north of South Australia, on the lookout for "stupidity, cunning and plain malice" while checking up on the inhabitants of the isolated properties on his patch. This time he's dealing with a snowdropper, a severely neglected child, a group of Irish scammers and a complicated financial plot, as well his own personal stalker. This series is wonderful. I sincerely hope it continues. #ozfiction

.... out here the angles were unpredictable. Roads shot off in unlikely directions, buildings decayed at a lean and the end less flatland was neither endless nor flat, throwing up stone reef patches or plunging into gullies. And it was a land scape charged with unheard testimony: an ochre hand stencil in a cave; a stick figure carved into a rockface; a grinding tool laid bare after a flash flood.

Perfect cold wet weather reading spot and novel!! Archie loves it too😊
I love Gary Disher‘s writing..it‘s crisp and clean and so Australian. He manages to weave several stories around a central narrative, still keeping me interested. Living in a small country town myself, I love the descriptions of people and place!!
I really recommend his books if you want a taste of Aussie country❤️

I enjoyed this book.. published in 1948..an old fashioned murder mystery set in a Melbourne telephone exchange. Its a romp with a strong female protagonist , who always seems to be a step ahead of the police..and the killer..good fun!!
