#BackToReading #day8 #BannedBookLove Catching up on my photo challenges, I think I may be too optimistic at the start of the month & try a few more challenges than I can keep up with. Oh well, I give it my best shot! Did you know that Green Eggs And Ham was banned in China until not that long ago because of its "Marxist overtones" Yep, that Dr Seuss the famous Marxist?Ridiculous isn't it.

TheCanuckReader This was read at my wedding reception...lol 7y
JaclynW Wow! Banned?! Our family loves this book! 💚 7y

So catching up on #backtoreading I really wanted to show Out of Print's burned books match set for #bannedbooklove because I used these as the favours at my wedding! Slaughterhouse-Five appears twice here because all the match boxes were taken out and I don't recall the 5th book.

If you were to pull the list of the 100 most banned books I have read at least 90 of them. It was a project in high school. And while it's an important topic (1 was banned in our town last year) I see a new problem. "Problematic" books. To me it's almost one step below banning. Why? People want them rewritten, pulled from sale, etc. people are bullied for likening them. It's kind of crazy. This is just 3 books to be labeled "problematic" recently

ReadingRover I agree. I just read a whole thing about the Black Witch and it's ridiculous. The bullying is out of control and the irony is that the haters say they're doing it to protect people. It's sad. 7y
MrBook You're so awesome! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻 We could talk books nonstop for weeks, you and I. 😎👌🏻🍻 7y

I also consulted a list, and found this one that I have reviewed http://childrensbooksdaily.com/lgtb-fiction-books-for-a-ya-audience/ as part of a longer LGTBQIA post. There is nothing subtle about it, so it brings undue attention to itself. It's very information, full of humour and empathy, and made me sad that these kids are marginalised so much. I will link to the banned books article in the comments.

Just a sample of banned books we own. Fortunately I grew up in a family where there was access to any books-

This beautiful book won a Caldecott Honor in 2015. In 2016, it took the number one spot on the ALA's Top Ten Most Challenged Books list. It's been pulled from some school library shelves, including one in Minnesota: http://www.oif.ala.org/oif/?p=6559

I'm not positive that this book was banned but it was the first thing that popped in my head when I thought about this tag. I read it in high school and aging a few years later and loved it both times.
