Catherine Ryan Howard is one of my favorite crime novelists. This one is about a woman hired to ghost write for a famous athlete whose wife dies in questionable circumstances. It‘s inspired by OJ Simpson‘s “(If) I Did It.” It was a little twisty and definitely creepy. I liked her last book The Trap more, but this one was still a good read. This is my #BookSpin for July

Up next…I bought it at a beach bookshop last summer and then never got to it! Excited to move it off my bedside table stack! It‘s also my July #bookspin pick!

Sally Rooney‘s books are not easy reads. She has a knack for creating characters that have been thrown curveballs sucking the joy out of their lives. She considers the individual journeys through grief of two emotionally distant brothers following the death of their father. Peter‘s experience with the two women in his life felt raw and real to me. I really liked the ending.
July #BookSpin Category: Over 475 pages

This was a sweet romance with a lot of heart.

The story is about Abbey, a plus sized architect turned baker, and her journey towards love and self acceptance. I loved that the book explored deeper topics like fat shaming and aging parents. Caring for an ailing parent is a very common thing these days, but I rarely see it depicted in books.

This was such a cute fall romance set in Scotland!

First off, the vibes are immaculate. It took place during autumn, so it gave off super cozy fall vibes. It was also set in a small town in the Scottish Highlands, which added to the dreamy coziness.

The romance was adorable. I loved Harper and Fraser, both separately and as a couple. I found them both endearing.

My #bookspin this month was a historical fiction about the exploration of the Wolverine River through Alaska, the first successful trip by white men.

While the exploration part was interesting, I preferred the other part of the story is about Sophie, the wife of the lead explorer. She is left behind near Seattle, and finds a new interest in photography of birds and nature, in the days when the art of photography was new.

Probably in the minority here, and I‘m a little surprised as I‘ve liked everything else I‘ve read by Solomon…. But absolutely nothing in this book was unexpected or surprising. Loved the setting, everything else was okay or unoriginal. That‘s harsh, but an exciting setting isn‘t enough. #bookspinbingo #bookspin

Nope, I don't think Eisenhorn is a very charismatic or likable character (at least to me), but I still enjoyed this third book about him. Maybe I just like his taste in women? Because I really liked those. The story itself is nothing new in the Warhammer universe and therefore perfect background noise. There were some scenes that really captured me, so it's a Pick.

I finished my first #BookSpin read! This book is setup very similar to the first one, The Last Wish. I liked it and I'm liking how the stories are starting to build upon each other with the theme of destiny. I'll eventually start book 3, but not quite yet. So far I've been very happy with The Witcher series.

You may not recognize him, but you‘ve heard his shtick! Bruce is THE go-to comedy writer to call when in need of witty repartee for award shows, sitcoms, variety specials and more. Here he humbly & hilariously takes credit for the most legendary disasters ever made. (Remember the Star Wars Holiday Special or The Village People‘s first movie?) A nostalgic and amusing read, especially for this fan of cheesy shows.🤪🧀
