Geralt is a witcher, a man whose magic powers, enhanced by long training and a mysterious elixir, have made him a brilliant fighter and a merciless assassin. Yet he is no ordinary murderer: his targets are the multifarious monsters and vile fiends that ravage the land and attack the innocent. He roams the country seeking assignments, but gradually comes to realise that while some of his quarry are unremittingly vile, vicious grotesques, others are the victims of sin, evil or simple naivety. In this collection of short stories, following the adventures of the hit collection THE LAST WISH, join Geralt as he battles monsters, demons and prejudices alike...

Finally had a moment to read it. I loved it. Geralt is a complex character who has more emotions than people realize. The last chapter had me in tears. Such a good book.

Thoroughly enjoyed this one. Certainly enhanced by picturing Henry & Anya in my mind, searching for the similarities/differences between the show & the book.

But, even that aside, this is a riveting, disorienting, wonderful story collection with plenty of humor & heart.

So I‘m reading the series and my fiancé has read the books and told me there‘s an asterisk at the end of one of the stories, so of course I had to message him about it once I found it. I blocked out the spoiler!

Book #51 of the year! Loved the emotional depth in this collection. “A Shard of Ice” was probably my favorite story. Great set-up for the rest of the series, too.

I watched the Netflix episode but immediately felt confused one episode in. I thought I‘d give the book a read as I also heard great things about the video game. So I was perplexed when the book was just ok, often convoluted, slow in parts and too quick in others. I‘m glad to have read it but it‘s not a recommendation from me

I did enjoy this, but not as much as The Last Wish. I read this as the second in the series on the recommendation of a friend and would recommend likewise. It gives more backstory to some of the characters that pads them out more. I woukd read this again.

Sword of destiny is another collection of short stories, following Geralts adventures and meeting his destiny!

My favourite story is The Sword Of Destiny when Geralt meets Ciri, his child of destiny .

The relationship between Geralt and Ciri is heart-warming and loved how this was portrayed. Ciri loves geralt as a father. She trusts him implicitly and knows that he will do anything he can to protect her.

To start, I was not liking this book as much as The Last Wish, but the last half was much better with the introduction of dryads, Ciri, his mother, and more serious stories. Dandelion is funny but the silly stories were in such contrast to what had already been set up. As far as fairy tales references, this one had The Little Mermaid, The Snow Queen, and The Wild Swans (or The Six Swans).

The Last Wish took me awhile to get into, I think I had to adjust to the writing style or something. But I hand no such issues with Sword of Destiny and thoroughly enjoyed it! Dandelion is undoubtedly my favorite character!

Lane and I have a yucky cold bug, so we took the day off while we wait for covid test results (I dont think its covid, but he has to test negative before he can go back to school). He's laying on the couch playing video games while I do some #audiocleaning - not a bad way to spend the day!
I'm loving the stories about Geralt and Dandelion- their friendship is the best!

I read this as the 2nd in the series on the recommendation of a friend, and glad I did. It helps to set the scene for the rest of the main story and it flows better this way I think. I didn't love this as much as The Last Wish as some location descriptions I found harder to visualise but still very enjoyable. If you are planning to watch the series I would read this and LW first because the show jumps around the timeline, this will help massively.

This is book the second book, as suggested reading order, in The Witcher series. Like the first it is a collection of short stories about Geralt of Rivia. Unlike book one, book two is more about character development and less about slaying dangerous creatures. Two new characters are introduced Dandelion, the bard, and Ciri, a young princess. I can see already that the last two stories will lead into other books in the series. Loved it!⬇️

TheSpineView Loved even more than book one. Looking forward to reading the next book. 5⭐ 4y
ShelleyBooksie I must be reading the books in the wrong order 4y

This was a fun collection of Witcher stories. I especially enjoy the ones featuring Dandelion, the bard. The narrator for the audio version is terrific.

Day One of #20in4 stats:
▪️9.5 hours reading (most of which was spent listening to this one, with a couple of hours reading Space Between Worlds in print)
▪️1 book complete

As I venture deeper into the world of The Witcher, I am becoming more entranced by the world and Geralt. He‘s such a realistic character in how he behaves and questions himself. At one point he held an internal monologue about awkward feelings of attraction. I was amazed at the exposure to such raw emotions and it made him all the more endearing to me. #fantasy

Ok, mixed feels
Continued to enjoy learning more about the world, also the continuation of referencing/rewriting classic fairy tales; but it lagged in places and the portrayal of women (unsurprisingly) is bad like in it's predecessor. For better or worse, I'm so used to the latter that it doesn't phase me much when I encounter it in OLDER books
I'm still looking forward to seeing where the series goes.

2 ⭐️

After finishing The Last Wish and watching the first season of the The Witcher I was looking forward to this book but wow, IT WAS SO BORING. I didn‘t care about any of the characters and the short stories just slogged on and on and on. Also the portrayal of women in this book was really gross! I‘m going to give Blood of Elves a try but so far I am enjoying the show way more than the book series.

Kenyazero Yeah the portrayal of women was pretty bad! I'm hoping the rest of the series is better. 5y

I am so happy I decided to start with the prequels. Now I am curious to read the full length novels.

Great stories, worse treatment of women than the 1st book. It's clear that the narrator and every male character has a low opinion of women. Every time a woman comes in, one of the following is a hot topic: her child bearing ability, her body, her profession as a sex worker, her ability to nag, etc. #fantasy #sexism
