#ReadingTheAmericas2023
With a jumpstart in December last year I now have read 6 books for the challenge:
▪️USA - Ocean State
▪️Puerto Rico - Olga Dies Dreaming
▪️Paraguay- H(a)ppy
▪️Mexico - My Volcano
▪️Greenland - An African in Greenland
▪️El Salvador - The She-Devil in the Mirror
So I‘ve made a first dent in the 48 countries to be read!
"The reader became the book; and summer night was like the conscious being of the book." - Wallace Steven's, qtd in What to Read and Why by Harold Bloom
This was a great listen. Read by the author, it explores the history of his own book lust, his time working in and frequenting various bookshops in the Bay Area. He packs in a ton of history about book selling, book binding, early writing to publishing, libraries, renowned sellers and the future of reading and books themselves. I particularly enjoyed that with later releases he includes (2 in this edition) updates on the state of the trade. 4⭐️
This was my #doublespin for Jan, finished this weekend. It's a deep dive into data analytics of literature - classics, modern, popular fiction, fan fiction. Really engaging and surprisingly funny. @TheAromaofBooks
Some of these works of art are really beautiful. It was a fun idea to compile these images from various time periods on the same topic into a book. The diversity of the subject was limited to age. It would have been more interesting if the author had included more current artwork with subjects of women of color and women of different religions besides Christianity.
Great collection of books for children and teens!
