Meh. Lack of world building & lack of character development combined with too many lucky escapes, too many convenient reappearances of other characters. It reads like an old school dungeon video game. 2 stars

Sea Witch | Sarah Henning

so-so

I love the cover. And the narrator does a good job. But I‘ve never been a huge fan of retellings, and less of YA retellings. This book did not change that opinion.

It‘s okay but overly predictable, relies too heavily on the Disney version, & lacks character development. But I did appreciate the author weaving in actual Danish history.

A fun cozy mystery featuring a witch as the MC. I thought the magic system was fun. Overall, I enjoyed it & will be reading the next book in the series.

A wonderfully imaginative book. Set on Halloween night, 8 boys set out to find their missing leader. They meet a mysterious figure who takes them on a fantastical adventure, from Ancient Egypt to modern day Mexico, to explore the roots & sources of Halloween.

I will definitely make this an annual Halloween read.

Kenyazero Have you seen the animated movie of this book? I watched it all the time as a kid and was extatic when I learned it was based on a book. Bradbury narrates the film. 4y
