Somewhere, I read about the legendary illustrations in this book by Alan Aldridge, one of the most distinctive British art directors and illustrators of the 1960s, and I immediately added it to my Amazon Wish List. Lo and behold, I received it as a birthday gift a few years ago. And, I have hardly looked at the fanciful drawings. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I saw this book on Litsy, and loved the concept and the artwork. Added it to my Amazon wish list, and was surprised to receive it as a birthday gift! The story is inspired by the classic 1807 poem by William Roscoe. It is a visual fairytale using the illustrations of the distinctive British artist, Alan Aldridge. The colorful collection of animals has charmed both adults and children since 1973. #ayupaugust #animal #blameitonlitsy

squirrelbrain I adore this book! I still have my copy from when I was a child...maybe need to get it out and reread it, it‘s been years! 🦋 5y

#SongsOfSummer Day 5: #SummerNights remind me of this 1807 classic written by the poet William Roscoe and illustrated by William Mulready (see upper right image) with a new version by Aldridge. The story revolves around a summer‘s day in England – where there was to be a Ball and Feast among all creatures of air and land. It is meant to be a magical evening of festivities. I know I'm late for day 5 of #sizzlinsummerbooks, but this was the first thing I thought of for the #bug prompt, and I finally found a non-spoilery panel. I loved how this book simmered with justified rage and used sci-fi/fantasy tropes to turn expectations over even as it flipped tables.

brendanmleonard I have wanted to read this since Bombshells! The art is beautiful! 7y
aeeklund @brendanmleonard It's so fascinating! And the art is incredible. Can't wait to hear what you think when you check it out! 7y

As a kid I remember catching ladybugs in the sunroom and racing them in the bathroom sink with my sister. That could explain why they're the only bugs I actually like. Pictured are my two favorite ladybugs. #bug #sizzlinsummerbooks @Tiffy_Reads
