A celebrated political cartoonist in #Columbia is in the midst of receiving accolades when an encounter causes him to look back at a fateful choice and start asking questions. Really interesting book.

I knew how prolific Kirby was in the '60s and I knew had badly Stan Lee and Marvel screwed him over, but I had no idea how many comics he wrote before and after WWII before even creating the Fantastic Four.

Captain America's iconic shield, which was originally triangular, became round because of a dispute over its likeness to another character called the Shield.

Jack Kirby is probably the single most influential comic book creator. Tom Scioli's biography of Kirby is written as a graphic novel in the style of the old comic strips that Kirby read growing up.

My #specialedition includes every single comic of Charles Schulz's PEANUTS from 1952-2000. I reread all of them every year. My mom was a major Peanuts fan, and so am I. On her 50th birthday, I wrote Mr. Schulz, asking for a comic strip to give her (offering to pay, of course). He CALLED ME and told me it was a gift from him to her. Now that she's gone, I have it. #mostpreciousgift

dabbe @TrishB, @Amiable, @DivineDiana, @RawLovestoRead, @TheBookgeekFrau ... thanks, everyone, for the lovely comments! And yes, he did call--on his dime! That was back in 1988. He sounded like the nicest grandpa you'd ever want to meet. And he went the strip at his expense. I couldn't believe how generous he was. That was my mom's prized possession, and it's now mine. I think of her (and Schulz obviously) every time I look at it. ❣️ 2y

I think this would be a great intro into creative writing and get some peoples minds running. I also think that this would be a great independent reading book for most.
