Must read for colonial history.
Must read for colonial history.
I feel generally disappointed with American public school history curriculum. I do not remember studying the French and Indian War (aka The Seven Years War in Europe) in any significant way. But this short history shows how the changing alliances and enormous expenses of this conflict formed the foundation for American independence. The pic depicts the amphibious Battle of Quebec.
I started this book several times over the past six years or so. This is truly dense and impressive in terms of all of the information it conveys. I finally stuck it out thanks to a lot of car rides. I learned a great deal that‘s not covered in basic history classes. It gives fair depictions of the founding fathers, flaws and all. It was interesting how the democracy experiment almost crashed and burned or sputtered out on several occasions.
Happy Thanksgiving everybody!
I‘m still in the spooky mood, so I‘m continuing even though I may not finish by October 31. What‘s more scarier than humans? #currentlyreading
I‘ve been working through this all month (in between reading old wills, searching for marriage bonds, etc.) and it‘s fascinating. It‘s taking me so long because there‘s a lot to think about, not because it‘s a difficult read, but I‘m in the home stretch and hope to post a review soon.
At just over 2 hours, I was able to listen to this in a day. I‘d already read the YA and thought I‘d check out the kid version too. This is an excellent intro on anti racism and the history of racism in America and would be a great choice for children and parents to read or listen to and discuss together.
I haven‘t read the original, but I know this takes an already a very conversational tone geared to YA readers & makes enough changes to the language to scale it down well for MG. You do loose ALLOT of the subtler/more erudite content, but you end up with a book on anti racism written in clear language, based in historical fact, & determined to carry a hopeful tone throughout that seems like the perfect intro to this topic for many young readers
Great children‘s book about colonial life & times. The copy I read had a different cover than what is shown on this site/app.
