I didn‘t know about this. Personally, I prefer human narrators over listening to a robot read a book. Human narrators have inflection in their voices and robots don‘t.

I don't believe any of these short stories on Amazon are on Litsy yet - but I've read the first 3 in this Getaway series and have enjoyed them! Nothing I have in ebook format sounds good to me, so I keep turning to these short stories when I need something to read on my phone.
I seem to have a short attention span lately...and have a hard time committing to a regular sized book. These have been a perfect solution! It's a bonus that they are free.

Hooked_on_books @EKonrad Apparently there‘s been a sudden burst of it after people posted TikTok videos on how to do this. I‘m sure they think they‘re just bilking Amazon and not thinking about the impact on the authors. At least, hopefully. 2y

TrishB 😱 I remember when I first got a kindle someone showed me an illegal way to download books onto it. They couldn‘t understand why I wouldn‘t do it as I was saying what about the authors!! 2y

janeycanuck I‘ve heard people do this with Audible, too. If it‘s electronic, they should be able to determine how much of the book you‘ve consumed and if it‘s more than like… 25% or something, it‘s no longer eligible for return. What an awful situation for that author. 2y

MicheleinPhilly @Laughterhp @Hooked_on_books I‘ve returned a few but that was immediately after buying them and then realizing that I already owned it in hard copy. But that was like minutes after I purchased it. I can‘t even imagine reading it and then returning it. Go to the fucking library. 2y

vivastory I think that part of the mindset behind this that people have is that all art/entertainment should be free or a flat monthly free. Also as others in the thread are pointing out, they are not harming amazon. I haven't looked at the exact numbers on how much of amazon's profits are derived from books, but I'm guessing that it is not the majority. They will happily let people continue doing this if it keeps them on their site. People are only harming 2y
