This was a fun origin story for Santa Claus. It was very creative and adventurous and reminded me somewhat of a Roald Dahl book. I‘ll have to watch the movie next year!

This read more like a lorebook than a novel. Although this is a broad history of FR elves I wish the book focused more on certain things than others. The format and themes were clear but the execution wasn't very good. This also doesn't put the evermeet king or queen in the best light. I wish I liked it more but it just was not well executed.

I read this one a few years ago and keep meaning to reread and continue the series, but I still haven‘t.

The Grief of Stones (The Cemeteries of Amalo 2), by Katherine Addison (2022)
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫
Premise: A cleric who advocates on behalf of the dead inherits an apprentice just as he takes a case about the murder of an aristocrat.
Review: I was critical for the first book in this series for being diffuse. This was much the same, but it didn‘t bother me as much since I had a better sense of the world and the protagonist‘s job..This was very satisfying.

A friend and I realized we both read and loved this as teens, so now we (plus my husband) have formed a book club for a re-read. So far, just as fun as I remember interspersed with more awkward writing than I realized. Definitely excited to read more. I'm collecting every played song in a playlist on Spotify (skipping ones just mentioned unless also implied that it may have been played).

The Witness for the Dead (Cemeteries of Amalo 1), by Katherine Addison (2021)
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Premise: A cleric with the ability to communicate with the dead is brought into several mysteries upon his arrival in a remote region of his world.
Review: I was intrigued to read this spin-off from The Goblin Emperor, which follows one of that book‘s most compelling characters in his new adventures. ⬇️

One thing about me: I love a T. Kingfisher novella—and this delightful, warm-hearted, and downright disgusting romp of a fantasy captured my heart!

Did anyone else have elf on the shelf for their kids? If you know you know. He was lots of work. My reward for the “Pete years” now that my kids are adults is snark until Christmas.

Attending a zoom with Wendy and Richard Pini, creators of Elfquest. Sooooo inspiring for other creators, follow their newsletter for other events and neat things if you‘re a comic fan.
