A reimagining of Margaret Fuller‘s life-with Margaret Fuller as narrator of her own story.Although her life was cut short, she experienced it to its fullest via her own violation. Her narration enabled me to get swept up in her inner thoughts, observations,& desires.Like many women, her “herstory” was sidelined by the eminent men in her sphere. The exception was NY newspaper publisher H. Greeley. He was able to truly “see” her,& encourage her quests.

I‘m not a mystery fan and have never read Agatha Christie, but The Queens of Crime completely won me over. I loved the clever idea of turning famous mystery writers into real-life sleuths. Following the clues with them was engaging and fun, even for someone unfamiliar with their work. A smart, imaginative blend of true crime and literary history. Definitely worth a read.

5-8-25: My 32nd finished book of 2025! A historical fiction account of a group of female mystery writers including Dorothy Sayers and Agatha Christie trying to become members in the male driven Detection Club. Once they have joined and realize they will never being taken seriously, they set out to solve a real life “locked door” mystery of a young nurse brutally murdered. They travel between England and France to find clues and bring justice.

I know so much about the transcendentalists time & its men from reading & teaching, but not enough about Margaret Fuller, who is neglected in history. This is fiction, But I will see if I can find a biography as well to eventually read as well. Anyone know of one?

ChaoticMissAdventures Wow I had to look her up, I don't think I have ever heard of her and she sounds fascinating. I cannot believe the women we overlook in history. 2w
TheBookHippie I own this Margaret Fuller: Collected Writings https://a.co/d/9A952yU part of my feminist cannon reading 2w

This was amazing! Gone with the Wind was a favorite movie of mine when I was younger and I always thought Hattie McDaniel was excellent in it. Learning about her real life and all of the turmoil and backlash she suffered due to the roles she played was so sad. She was hardworking and dynamic and witty and smart and it really is horrific that she just wanted to do the thing she loved the most - act - and find a love that was true and lasting and ⬇️

candc320 Cont‘d: and suffered for it again and again. I loved learning about this brilliant actress! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 3w

I‘ve had this book on Kindle for months, way back when it was the last book for #EuropaCollective. Finally got around to it! A very interesting story about Belle Greene who became the chief librarian for J.P. Morgan in the early 1900s, all while passing as “white” even though her parents were descended from slaves. It‘s amazing how far we‘ve come from when having a single drop of black blood disqualified someone from so much.

Tamra I think about the Morgan family & Belle and the tragedy of her nephew not infrequently. 3w
BarbaraBB I‘ll bump it up my TBR. I‘ve got a copy for #EuropaCollective as well. We should bring that reading club to live again! 3w
Lesliereadsalot You have so much going on already! On one hand, I found every book we read from Europa to be interesting and valuable. On the other hand, I‘m not too good with having to be “responsible” for reading something. If you want to try to bring #EuropaCollective back to life together, I‘ll give it a shot. What do you think @BarbaraBB ??? 3w

Lesliereadsalot Yes, very sad and I can‘t stop thinking about it either. @Tamra 3w
BarbaraBB I‘d like that. We could check out if the former participants are interested and then maybe start again in the fall (after camp)? (edited) 3w
Tamra @BarbaraBB @Lesliereadsalot yes! I really enjoyed the Europa reads! 😁 3w
BarbaraBB @Tamra That‘s so good to know! We can revive it! 3w
Lesliereadsalot OK, I‘m in! Let‘s talk about it after camp. I‘ll work on getting the former participants list together over the summer. 🩷. @BarbaraBB 3w
BarbaraBB Great ❤️🧡🤍 3w
tpixie @BarbaraBB @Lesliereadsalot @Tamra I wrote a post last month or so about reading a #EuropaCollective in June. I better post it now so people can get the book! 📕 it‘s by the author of The Postcard- written with her sister- about another grandmother (edited) 1w

tpixie Great book! Love the photo. Thanks for the link. I hope to visit The Morgan Library & The Frick Mansion someday. I‘ve already been to NYC 3 times though- not since the ‘80‘s though, so I don‘t know if it‘s beat other cities…. 4w
