Mehso-so

The pieces are there, but never quite come together into a cohesive whole. The fantastical elements feel superfluous—not much would have had to change to make it a mundane Western. The first-person narrator has a distinctive (and appealing!) voice, but he's entirely reliable, a wasted opportunity in a story whose character beats rely heavily on self-perception. Not a bad read, but not one to seek out, either. #western #firstpersonnarrator

So many books for teens are written in first person. It gets a little annoying. #uncannyoctober #firstpersonnarrator

Jess7 Why do you dislike first person narrator? @LibrarianRyan (edited) 6y
Smangela That‘s true! Never realized that before; maybe the repetition of that is what makes me get burnt out on YA and need to take breaks? 🤷🏻‍♀️ 6y
LibrarianRyan @Jess7 it's not that I don't like it, I do. But for some reason most current teen lit is 80-90% first person. It just gets tiring n 6y

How It Went Down | Kekla Magoon

Pickpick

I'm using this book for past present & future Oct challenges bc I'm running out of books I've read or own to use for these things!! 😳😫 How It Went Down describes the fictional shooting of a young black boy from #multipleperspectives w/ #firstpersonnarrator(s). I enjoyed the exploration of the subject and didn't find it too tough to handle, if that's a worry some ppl have. I'm taking the idea of #hallowedgrounds pretty seriously for this one. ❤️

I've already used the first person narratives I have on my shelf. So I went looking for ones I've already read on my Goodreads list.

I'm pretty sure that almost all of Kelley Armstrong's Otherworld novels have a #FirstPersonNarrator (Elena, Paige, Eve, Jaime, Hope, to name a few). The only ones I can think of that aren't 1st person POV are Living With the Dead, and some short stories (like the first one in Chills) Other books with 1st person narrators that come to mind are The Hunger Games trilogy (Katniss) and most of the Sherlock Holmes stories (Watson). #UncannyOctober

Andrew65 Love Katniss! 7y

The Arts | Hendrik Willem Van Loon

The Arts was originally #publishedinthe1930s. Underneath the tattered jacket of my edition is a #bare cover with a debossed image that I can't quite make sense of. Van Loon often speaks directly to the reader as a #firstpersonnarrator and manages to dedicate nearly 700 Pages to #nonreadingpursuits.

First person narrator for #uncannyoctober ! The wolves are here because of the photo challenge I'm doing on Instagram (they were too cute to cut out). So anyway, if you were to force me into declaring my favorite stand-alone book of all time...it'd probably be this one right here. I haven't read it in a long while, and probably should revisit it soon. #firstpersonnarrator

JSW This was the first book after grad school that helped me get my book mojo back. It will always hold a special place in my heart for that. ❤️❤️❤️ 7y

Sherman Alexie has been on my mental to-read list for a while, so this was my first thought for #riotgrams #IndigenousAndNativeReads. I‘ve heard so much about it, but haven‘t picked it up yet. Those of you who‘ve read Alexie, where would you recommend starting? What‘s a favorite of his that you‘ve read?

This also works nicely for #uncannyoctober #FirstPersonNarrator!

kyraleseberg The Absolutely True Story was the first that I read and I really enjoyed it! Probably my favorite YA novel I've read the past few years. Reservation Blues was also a great read. Looking forward to his memoir, it's on my TBR for next month. 7y
britt_brooke I just finished this and loved it! It‘s the only book of his I‘ve read so far, but it won‘t be the last. 7y
JazzFeathers I'd recommand starting with hus first colkection of shorts. It really helps entering his world ans ease into it 😊 7y
Cathythoughts Great title 👍 7y

bookloo I loved and identified so much with this book. The “tree branches” quote is one of my all-time favorite passages in literature. Plath totally understood. 💜 7y
