I just finished watching The Tudors for the first time. While Jonathan Rhys Meyers looks nothing like the real Henry VIII, I think he did an excellent job portraying this egomaniacal king. It‘s my first time exploring the other wives of H8 besides Anne Boleyn, and I have gone down the rabbit hole, downloaded about 60 books relating to it all. 😬

Jerdencon I had such a crush on Jonathan Rhys Meyers playing Henry and it sent me down the Tudor rabbit hole too. 1w

DebinHawaii Excellent! I need to rewatch The Tudors! 😍 1w

Sparklemn May make an excellent winter re-watch. Not exactly cozy, however! 1w
JenlovesJT47 @Jerdencon same!! He is absolutely beautiful, especially in the first two seasons. His weird accent in the last season where he was trying to sound older was a choice lol, but still…now I need to check out other things he‘s in. What‘s your favorite book on the subject? 5d
JenlovesJT47 @DebinHawaii it‘s so good! I have a show hangover now so I‘m watching Mad Men for the 37th time 😬😬😬 5d
JenlovesJT47 @Sparklemn definitely not cozy!! 😆😬😅 I actually had to take a break for a couple of weeks in the middle of season 2 because I knew what was going to happen to poor doomed Anne Boleyn. Natalie Dormer did a fantastic job. ♥️♥️♥️ 5d
JenlovesJT47 @BookishMarginalia I was constantly pausing the show to look up facts about the real people, I find it fascinating! 5d
JenlovesJT47 @dabbe I could have written some not so nice ones about H8 but I decided to focus on the hottie JRM. 😳😬🤤 5d
JenlovesJT47 @AnnCrystal 🤗♥️🥰 5d
JenlovesJT47 @TorieStorieS ooh I‘ll have to add that to my list! I mostly downloaded historical fiction for now but this sounds good 🤗♥️ 5d
TorieStorieS It is a fictional autobiography! I love all of Margaret George‘s historical fiction!! They are all chunksters but so worth the handcramps! 5d
Sparklemn @JenlovesJT47 Soooo hot! 😍 5d

This is a very interesting non-fictional overview over Anne‘s life. Because I only watched the different semi-ficituonal series about Henry VIII‘s life, I never realized it took Anne eight years to be married ti the king. On TV it always happens in a shorter amount of time. And in the end she was only married to hin for three years. Seems like the moment he actually had her, he lost interest.

Very good. Fictionalised biography of Henry VIII. Well written and full of detail.

Short History of Byzantium | John Julius Norwich

One common theme I‘ve noticed is fighting the pope to divorce our wives. Sound familiar? Yes, but what makes Henry VIII different is Henry actually split from the church. Leaders at this point typically threatened to leave but never actually took that step, but the point is Henry VIII was not creative. He just crossed that line that we haven‘t seen before.#history of Byzantium #byzantineempire #catholicchurch #henryviii #pope #patriarch

I really like Alison Weir but this for me fell a bit flat. Perhaps it‘s because the story adds nothing new to my knowledge of the time and compared to some of the other novels I have read it felt a little fast and at time perfunctory. Henry is a complex character and I feel like we never really see that complexity #bookedintime @Cuilin

It has been A January so far; three weeks in the hospital thanks to intractable 🤢 led to an at-last diagnosis of gastroparesis (so, basically, my gallbladder worked too hard, my stomach doesn‘t work hard enough), but coming home to this was such a smile. Thank you, thank you, @TheBookHippie — can‘t wait to dive into the book (though the treats will still have to wait a bit, it‘ll make them all the sweeter!) 💖 #labefana @bookish_wookish

Scholarly but very readable. I enjoyed this look at Tudor women, focusing on the wives, yes, but also others of the era. There are a lot of characters to keep straight in Henry VIII‘s court, but it gets easier with each book I read.

Melismatic Reminds me of the musical ‘Six‘! 💜 14mo
Lcsmcat @Melismatic I read somewhere that this was the inspiration for that musical. 14mo

Not ready to stop reading about the Tudors after The Mirror and the Light, so I‘m hoping these 3, plus the tagged book not pictured, will scratch that itch. #bookhaul
