#12Booksof2024 @Andrew65

Forgot to post this yesterday 🤦🏻‍♀️ My favorite read of April. This was full of fascinating history of not only the band but the larger context of the music industry in Britain and America as well as the social-political conditions that put a lot of that history into context. A slow read but HIGHLY enjoyable!

Andrew65 Sounds interesting. 3mo

It's a beautiful book, born of a beautiful relationship between father and son. #63-2024

John Lennon believes in the power of his subconscious mind, which seems to receive both present, passing flashes of inspiration, and radiating echoes of the past. That antenna-like connection leads to brilliant music; at other times, it leads to noise. In the novel, Lennon seeks the peace of a private island, where he has the space to Scream out trauma and reset. Unfortunately, for artists like Lennon, there is never quiet. He is always tuned in.

Recently re-obsessed with The Beatles after having finally watched the Get Back documentary. Which is amazing. So I've been collecting all the random Bestles related books I can find and was so beyond excited to find this adorable Little Golden Book. So cute!!

We saw this at the bookstore a few weeks ago and Jace wouldn‘t stop talking about so I finally had to order it from Amazon. At least he has good taste! A nice mini Beatles biography and a great way to introduce them to children. 5⭐️ #Jace #Beatles #biography #littlegoldenbook

Is it cheating to use the same book for two months? 😂

This book is packed with information and I‘m taking my time and savoring it, trying to absorb the cultural moment that Gould is describing. It requires my full attention (meaning I‘m not reading it in quick hits throughout the week) as it combines history, sociology, psychology, musicology, biography, and cultural analysis. Incredibly written and, at times, hilarious. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

John Lennon: The Life | Philip Norman

Is the goal of a good biography to be objective? Is that even possible? Of course Norman wrote this after John‘s death, so he was dependent on interviews with people who knew him and his journals. Yoko refused to endorse this book because she said the author was “too mean” to John. Maybe that‘s true and he chose to slant it that way, or maybe based on some of John‘s actions, especially towards women, he was just trying to tell the truth. 🎶/5

TrishB It‘s sometimes hard for anyone to see past the cult of John. Hence the being mean. He did not treat women well (or his son!) - he was human. 11mo

My nonfiction winner this month is Jonathan Gould‘s excellent Beatles biography, Can‘t Buy Me Love. I haven‘t finished it yet, but it earned its spot by being extremely detailed and well written - and also the only NF I started this month. #readingbracket2024

Still working my way through this chunkster. It‘s very detailed and quite well-written. I‘m really enjoying it so far. Also tonight enjoying a peanut butter swirl brownie (Sally‘s Baking Addiction) with coffee in this awesome mug that I got from @Gissy years ago in my first Litsy swap! I still use it all the time.

How‘s everyone‘s #hyggehour this week?
