Some of the stories are really boring, some are weird, some are fairly interesting - funnily enough, those are usually my usual genres I read. The boring stories did drag a lot though and made me not want to read, so I'm not sure I'd completely recommend it, because at times it felt so taxing I actually avoided the book.

thereadingpal That said, the goal of the book is to improve your German and make you understand by context (and using translation when needed). I'm happy to say that I could understand most of what was going on by the end of it, while the first stories were a bit more challenging as I used the vocabs way too much and I still wasn't using German as much as I should (still am not, but I'm using it much more). 1w
thereadingpal Recommended for its purpose, but I wish the stories were better. 1w
julesG Wish I could recommend some good stories for learners of German. What I used to recommend to my adult students of English (as a second language) was to pick a story/book they knew well in German and read the English version. Might work the other way around too. 7d

thereadingpal @julesG perhaps! My first language is Italian but English stories would also work I think. I also bought some children's and teens books 6d
julesG 🤦🏻‍♀️I assumed. Well, guess a story you know well in Italian would work too, I suppose 6d
thereadingpal @julesG ahaha it's okay!!! 6d

Even though my life is in chaos now due to having to move from a building that caught fire (everyone and all our things are ok) to a new home, I always need some stimulation. Language learning has always done that for me. I heard about this author and this revised book, so in brief snatches of time, I am diving in! So far I am curious and optimistic about his approach. Any other language learners out there and have you heard of this author?

Dilara I am curious but I‘ d bet the title promises more than can be delivered! 1mo

HardcoverHearts @Dilara he has some interesting ideas about memorization that are intriguing. Still early in the books so we shall see. 1mo
mhillis @HardcoverHearts French and Japanese 🙌 4w
HardcoverHearts @mhillis how impressive! 4w
sarahbarnes Good question. I‘d say off and on for years as an adult. I know more now than I ever have, but I don‘t even think I‘d call myself proficient. My goal is to live in a Spanish-speaking country at some point for a few months. I think that would improve my skills quickly now that I know enough to get around and can follow conversations. 4w

While I continue reading The Amber Spyglass by Philip Pullman (heart wrenching) I'm gonna read the third story in this book.
They're weird and somewhat underwhelming stories, but good for vocab

I‘m catching up on my French. I keep meaning too. Haha! I took it and passed in high school, probably just barely. Mom is going to help some. She‘s good with written French and grammar. It‘s a beautiful language!

BethM I‘ve been wanting to do the same. 2mo

For what this is (an A2-B1 graded reader for Spanish language learners), I found it consistently at the advertised level and written well enough that I wanted to keep reading. It's a single story of a mysterious theft told through 101 short chapters consisting of a contextual blurb followed by a conversation. Available on #Hoopla. #Spanish #gradedreader #languagelearning

Sace Ooooo. I need to check that out. I teach Spanish 1 (A1-A2), but this would be good to have for the end of the year (and if I ever have Spanish 2). 4mo

Had bit of a Korean learning block the last few weeks plus I've been to Disneyland Paris.
But there's nothing like a Korean book hual to get the motivation going again!
The BTS box has 4 books and an electric pen that speaks when you put it on a word.
Magic!

My two favorite bands from Iceland (I am traveling there now). (Seabear and Sigur Ros)

@TieDyeDude #TuesdayTunes

vivastory I saw Sigur Ros twice now. The first time in 2002. There have been a few concerts in my life that were transcendental. That was def one. 9mo
AmyG @vivastory Consider yourself lucky! I‘d have loved to see them. 9mo
