My two favorite bands from Iceland (I am traveling there now). (Seabear and Sigur Ros)

@TieDyeDude #TuesdayTunes

vivastory I saw Sigur Ros twice now. The first time in 2002. There have been a few concerts in my life that were transcendental. That was def one. 2w
AmyG @vivastory Consider yourself lucky! I‘d have loved to see them. 2w

Quite an interesting study of what it means to be able to learn a lot of languages, or hyperpolyglottism. It took awhile for me to read though and I skimmed parts. It is a little frustrating because it lacks solid conclusions to be made. Partly it is a gift and partly just hard work? See the reviews at Amazon for more.

Going back to nonfiction. I‘m into languages somewhat. Will try this one.

I was expecting this to be a bit dry but it was surprisingly funny and engaging. I will need a physical copy at some point because I can see myself reading it over and over everytime I start to learn a new language (I'm a wannabe polyglot) but listening to it did have some advantages because he gives very specific pronunciation examples. Chock full of resources and language learning advice as well as his own experience and specific study methods.

Happy Jólabókaflód part 2!

Here‘re the family‘s treats…

Bugga is really excited about all holidays and we found some extra books to help him (and us all) with understanding ☺️

LeCarre for husband, bada$$ for little sister, Harvest for big sister, and Episode 13 for me.

Also, yes, chocolate abounds. ☺️
♥️??♥️??♥️

mabell I just read the Hanukkah book to Sophie! It was very well done. And I definitely don‘t have the BB Night Before Christmas in my collection! 😄 6mo

Avanders @mabell I agree! It is so cool how much he‘s into holidays this year… he was also aware of Human Rights Day (he kept saying Happy Human Day) and Winter Solstice (Happy Winter Day ;)) Hope you had a Merry Christmas!! ♥️🎄😘 6mo

I recently ordered these Greek comics from the artist Smar‘s Etsy shop in the hopes that I can read them in Greek in the next few months/years. I‘m tip-toeing through them, recognizing little words or phrases here and there. It‘s like magic when I spot something I understand. I figure comics will be a good way to practice reading and even speaking because they‘re dialogue-centric. Plus, the art is very fun!

rwmg I found reading the Indonesian version of Asterix a great help in language learning. Sure, I probably missed some jokes but knowing the story in advance and having the artwork to prompt me made it a lot easier to read. 8mo
psalva @rwmg That‘s good to hear it helped you with Indonesian. I found a few Greek language publishers that seem accessible to order from but something about the comic and the artwork makes it less daunting than a full book, especially when I‘m such a beginner. 8mo

Voroshilovgrad | Serhiy Zhadan

Pickpick

I wish I had read Voroshilovgrad with a book club because there is just so much to unpack. Zhadan‘s prose were gorgeous. I loved the magical realism and that we couldn‘t always trust what Herman (the MC) or the secondary characters were seeing/saying. I also thought Herman sucked (such a perv). However, there was so much striking symbolism and the ending hit hard and was hilarious. I‘m looking forward to trying more Ukrainian lit! 🇺🇦
