This book is so stinkin‘ adorable! A humorous how-to guide on choosing and bringing home a monster and caring for it. A creative premise and cute illustrations!
“Share activities with your monster. After all, he is almost like one of the family. In fact he‘s probably better than some of the family. He will like to watch horrible, mean, nasty shows on television. Let him watch the news.” 🤣
A genuinely scary thriller/horror story, with a mysterious abused woman and mysterious creature in the woods. The question is who is the real monster in the story? It is best to know very little going into the story, but note strong content of abuse (not a spoiler as it happens within the first chapter). A genuine page turner that I finished in one day. 5⭐️

7. Snowed in
Near The Bone by Christina Henry is a good winter read. It‘s a very atmospheric horror read, and would be a good choice for the #Snowedin prompt.
“See there's a monster in my closet. With claws and teeth and hair and tonight i'm going to scare. Him he lives just right through there i spot my monster right away he's practicing his roar.“
This is a wonderful story for any teacher to use as a social-emotional learning read aloud to teach children how to overcome stress, fear, and anxiety and that things aren't always as scary as we think they may be.
Speculative fiction. Published 2017. This book is a super humorous story about a brave young ninja who needs to figure out how to catch the monster in his closet. The underlying message from this story is how to overcome stress, fear, and anxiety. This is a great read for a whole class read aloud in younger grades. I love this story!
