Meh. I read it, but it wasn‘t anything special despite all the accolades. Patty is just getting out of prison after serving five years for aggravated child abuse. Her daughter Rose Gold reluctantly (?) invites her to live with her and her newborn, Adam. Who‘s telling the truth? Who cares?

SilversReviews It was intense for me. 3mo

244 pages of oh my god, of horror. The author describes how her mother stole her innocence from her by deliberately making her sick. But, she continued to do this to the other children she fostered as well. Julie describes a house constantly full of gaslighting, abuse—both mental and physical. After years of suffering, she discovered there was a name for what her mother did to her, via a psych class. Processing this might have been worse⬇️

JenniferEgnor than all those years of endless doctor visits. When she confronts her mother, she responds by gaslighting her. Julie was determined to stop her from destroying another child‘s life. I hope she was successful. 5mo

Cruel Deception | Gregg Olsen

Tanya Reid is a nurse and a mother. When her baby son, Michael, is taken to the hospital one to many times in a matter of months, the doctors and nurses start suspecting Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy (MSbP). It's the late 1980's and this is a new term in the medical field. Soon, Melodee Hanes gets her Trauma Team in the DA's office to start an investigation.

Tanya, known as Tonto by family, says she's innocent. She would never harm her child⬇️

MonicaLoves2Read She swears it's seizures that Michael is having. Tanya tells her husband and family that Hanes is doing this for Hanes career, that she's innocent.

The Trauma Team and Hanes during their investigation learn that Tanya had a baby that died years before. The medical information on her is very similar to Michael. Then Hanes comes across even more shocking news.

A hard read for me bc I couldn't have children, nor adopt bc of health problems. To think that someone would hurt an innocent child upset me greatly. Of course, I cry when they talk about child abuse on the news. If you are like me, have the tissue handy.

Who knows if Tanya really abused her children with MSbP? Only she and her children do. Was Hanes out for her career? Didn't seem that way to me.

If you like True Crime and have never read a Gregg Olsen book, pick any of the dozen he has written and you are going to find: 1) A nonfiction book written like a story. Olsen is a storyteller and takes a different approach than most True Crime writers. Usually, True Crime books are written from a journalist POV, not his. 2) A well researched book. Olsen gets both sides of the story. He talks to everyone involved, or at least tries to, not all want to talk. 3) An interesting book. Everyone of Olsen's books as kept my attention through the whole book. I never once have gotten bored.

This is very timely with the controversy over the Gypsy Rose Blanchard case getting so much attention recently. One would have to assume that some of the parallels are no coincidence even down to the names and parts of the story. It‘s an interesting take on what would have happened if the story had ended differently. I‘m not sure how I feel in the end of this one because both characters are unlikable in their own ways but sympathetic, as well.

This suspenseful novel starts when Zoe was only 10. Her little sister died from leukemia and both parents were devastated so deeply that Zoe was mostly ignored and had to fend for herself. After the parents‘ divorce, she found her soulmate and became a mother. That‘s when the darkness appeared…hard to put down. Fascinating.

TODAY‘S PROMPT: GOLD

THRILLER - SUSPENSE

For eighteen years Rose Gold was told by her mother that she was ill with some disease that no one could figure out.

DARLING ROSE GOLD is a tense, chilling book, but is very well written. You won‘t want to put the book down.

This was just okay for me. It was slow-paced and underwhelming, IMO.

Plot twist. Plot twist. Plot twist. This book kept me on the edge of my seat and bouncing my legs in anticipation. I nearly read it in one sitting. Definitely a must read!

This is a super uncomfortable read. Take a look inside the twisted mind of a psychopath and the messed up girl who was her longest lasting victim. There are many OMG and WTF moments that highlight just how damaging abuse and neglect are.

Literally everyone is this book is an unlikable asshole except for the baby and Anna. And while I understand Rose Gold‘s reasoning for wanting revenge, the way she went about it makes her no better than her own mom, if not worse. This was just not enjoyable when you don‘t like any of the people you‘re reading about.

Beautiful cover tho 🤷🏻‍♀️

JamieArc I had a problem with this book because it was way too similar to the true story. It felt like a lack of creativity by the author. 2y
magyklyXdelish @JamieArc I knew going into it that it was inspired by it but yeah it comes off as less inspired by and more like beat for beat (almost). And the parts that were different I hated anyway. I was definitely let down by this one. 2y
