So, this one (of course) ended a bit abruptly - being only Vol 1; but... I don't know if it caught me enough to even care to read Vol 2 (it's not currently available on Libby - so I would have to “look“ for it). Oh well. It was “eh“. #LibbyLoan #NotAnotherGraphicMonday

I dunno... it left room for the possibility of revisiting these places, these characters, but all three volumes were completed in 2019 so it doesn't feel like an ongoing series.
If I'm to take the three volumes as a finished arc, it seem like a rushed, not totally satisfying, ending.

Robotswithpersonality Also, as much as there were some monster-y bits in the previous couple of volumes, there was a pretty gruesome moment in this one I wasn't expecting. To each their own yuck level, but I'm not sure I'd recommend this to younger teens.
I'll have to poke around John Allison's other work, see if these uniquely weird vibes show up again.

Ah, Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory (1971), dipping into the classics, I see. I miss Gene Wilder.

Giving me early Buffy the Vampire Slayer vibes, a group stumbling into the supernatural and adapting on the fly, though aged up to encompass the real world concerns of 20-somethings, and a recent retiree, all of who seem to be both wholesome and a little lost. Wouldn't quite call the ending a cliff hanger, more like it was a fun, goofy adventure with a lot of world to build on. Will be looking up the next volume!

*Japan (Sapporo, Tokyo) & Hawaii in the 1980s.
That's where I wanna be atm. 😊

Another choice would be The Woman in White by Wilkie Collins - gothic spooky England in the early 1800s.

Loved this conclusion (?) to the Brooklyn Brujas trilogy! Rose is such a fantastic character and her adventure is an exciting ride. The thread of family that connects and enhances all three of these books is wonderful. I‘m hoping we‘ll get a Nova book soon!
