Audiobooks on the Go | Audiofile, Robin Whitten

Hi friends! I‘m working with a busy brained child who cannot transition to sleep easily. I think audiobooks may be helpful and would love to hear some recommendations I can pass along to the family. I will be grateful for any suggestions. Please and Thank you!

Avanders Malachi loves the magic treehouse series, and there are a bunch of Sesame Street audio book/stories. I don‘t know whether they‘re good for transitioning to sleep, specifically, but they‘re good kid audios. ☺️ 4d
Daisey I don‘t have a specific recommendation, but you might look into some of the sleep story podcasts. There are various ones spoken in very calming voices to help you fall asleep. 4d
See All 8 Comments
Cuilin The Frog and Toad series and Winnie the Pooh were huge hits in my preK classroom at nap time. I‘ll look up what else I used. 3d
Larkken I loved the James Herriot books as a kid. They're comprised of short vignettes from the author's life as a rural vet. I just downloaded the audiobook but haven't tried it... So this is maybe not right for the situation (and also maybe the wrong age? I dunno your kid). But maybe worth checking out! I always love a good British accent when falling asleep, myself. 3d
squirrelbrain There are kids‘ sleep stories on the Calm app. Not sure how many are on the free version as I have a subscription, but they‘re all about half an hour long and, of course, specifically designed for sleeping. I don‘t think I‘ve ever heard the end of one! (Grown-up versions for me ☺️) 3d
BethM I just tagged you in what we use. They also make a different system called a Yoto that has cards instead of figures. Plus it‘s something he can operate on his own vs a phone or device. Otherwise if he‘s snuggling with me he likes to fall asleep to Harry Potter with me 😂 3d
TheBookHippie We did Little Bear! 😂🙃 3d

Anyone else concerned that the US Constitution we have all read and treasured is going in the direction of banned books? Any concerns about specific parts of the constitution that your elected officials can be encouraged to uphold? The above number will help you reach out to your elected officials. In general I highly recommend reading this- especially the added amendments.

I felt a little overwhelmed and thought some parts were convoluted, but it is a shapeshifter/fae/vampire and gazillion other creatures world so who am I to judge? I always enjoy my visits into this world in general so while this is not a favorite book in the series I‘m still happy I read it.

AprilMae This one was the hardest of this series to get into. Luckily the next book is easier to get into 1w

I started this on audio- and could not get into it at all, but when i switched to reading I enjoyed it much better. The setting is Upstate NY and a year round Christmas Town- I thought that was funny because in College it felt like it snowed October until May in Utica NY. I liked the characters, was a little survey the killer and overall enjoyed the mystery.

TiredLibrarian Did you go to Utica College? I did! 💙🧡 1w
Chrissyreadit @TiredLibrarian I did! I graduated in 1993. When were you there? 1w
TiredLibrarian @Chrissyreadit Graduated twice! Psychology in 1986 and English/education in 1992. Pretty close! 1w

Chrissyreadit @TiredLibrarian crazy! I graduated with Child Life Psychology. we probably had some of the same teachers! Do you live in/near Utica? I drove through it a couple years ago and barely recognized it! 1w
TiredLibrarian @Chrissyreadit I'm in Rome NY. I remember Dr. Moltman, Della Ferguson, Dr. Brown, Dr. Zellner, Polly Ginsburg from the psych dept. I'm sure I had others I don't remember anymore. I loved it there. 💙🧡 1w
Chrissyreadit @TiredLibrarian YES! Same I loved and had Mel Moltman, Della Fergeson, Cevita Brown and Polly Ginsburg - and I don‘t know if you knew or remember Dr. Vespa but another favorite. I think i had an amazing education there. 1w

i loved this Vampyre Werewolf romantasy book so much! For perspective- even with Onyx Storm/Emperyan hangover and chaos in my personal life (we are all safe ❤️ ) and the illigal takeover of Federal funds that may destroy my fledgling private practice- I thoroughly escaped into this world and loved the unique take on the “tropes”.

Butterfinger The cover is beautiful. 2w

Butterfinger It's not my favorite, but I love action and a good story. ACOTAR and Xaden are the ones that brought me back to reading. I tried two of Armentrout's and just was not pulled. Quicksilver, I have not decided yet. LOL. I like Kingfisher, but there wasn't much of a burn. 2w

Just finished. I loved this book. I think i will reread it more slowly and i have a lot of questions… but some of my suspicions were accurate and so maybe more will be. I was supposed to be at the author talk tuesday- my SIL video taped most of it for me since i had a family emergency and could not go- and her talk was so much fun to watch! I am curious about what the target edition looks like…

forestandcrow I just got it today! I just started it. I am low key worried about it. I loved the first one but hated the second one. Lol 1mo
Butterfinger I'm almost finished rereading Iron Flame. I am going to buy snacks and lock myself in the room Saturday!!!! I hope everything is calm and good now. 1mo
Chrissyreadit @forestandcrow IF is one of my favorites- but i did a reread and that‘s when i loved it- there were a lot of nuances and parts that in a reread were so much better. I think the same may be true for onyx storm. 1mo
See All 8 Comments
Chrissyreadit @butterfinger I‘m starting my reread today so feel free to tag me if you want to chat about parts as your reading ❤️ 1mo
Butterfinger @Chrissyreadit I find myself getting so anxious about Violet not telling her squad, her best friends, about the venin. Knowing what happens, I am more nervous during the second reading. I'm at the part where the squad is enduring the torture "course". 1mo
Chrissyreadit Yes- but i love how they embrace her when she does tell them- i think it helps her realize she was unfair to xaden. 1mo
MommyOfTwo I‘m about 100 pages I. And it‘s good so far. I got CBBC out and it should be to you on Tuesday. 2w

my countdown timer- it‘s going to be likely 2 years or more until the next book 😢

GingerAntics I know. That kills me! I am so willing to help her out any way I can to make the next book possible as soon as possible! I will tape her together. I‘ll type for her. I‘ll make her snacks! EDS is a 🤬 to live with, but I will still help! 1mo
Chrissyreadit @GingerAntics 🤣🤣🤣🤣 1mo
GingerAntics I actually felt weak and sort of down after I got my EDS diagnosis. Then a friend suggested these books to me, not even knowing I‘d gotten the diagnosis (because I hadn‘t told a soul) and I felt so much better. I love Rebecca Yarros. I am behind her 100%! 1mo
See All 8 Comments
Chrissyreadit @GingerAntics yes- it was funny my SIL and i have known each other since HS and she said she thought Violet complained a lot about about pain- because she said i never seemed to be in pain- and i laughed because i was ALWAYS in pain- just worked through it 🤣 It really felt good to have a character who has a similar body! 1mo
GingerAntics @Chrissyreadit RIGHT? Plus, she needs to take into account, we‘re getting what‘s going through her mind, not necessarily what she‘s actually saying to other people. I know I gave up telling people I was in pain a LONG time ago. I think by the time I started school, I‘d stopped saying anything because I knew I was going to be ignored anyway. 1mo
Chrissyreadit Honestly i felt so relieved once i was dx- until then i had decades of gaslighting and “injuries” drs had never “seen” before- and all of it is check the box for EDS. @GingerAntics 1mo
Chrissyreadit @GingerAntics i‘m glad you have enjoyed the books- and also have some valid medical answers. 1mo
GingerAntics @Chrissyreadit oh my god, SO many instances of “well that makes sense now.” The EDS lead to my MCAS diagnosis which explained even more. 🤯 Talk about a game changer! 1mo

Chrissyreadit @GingerAntics i have reread them several times- and enjoy them more with each reread- i don‘t think i‘ve been this obsessed with a book in decades. 1mo
GingerAntics @Chrissyreadit SAME! I have the graphic audio, the regular audio, the ebook, and the hardcovers. If I can make each audiobook last 1.5 days, I can listen to both versions of both books, and be ready to go in a week. 1mo

This is not a cozy- but book 2 in a mystery series. The main character is an archeologist asked to solve a mystery by examining bones. There is a second timeline 500 years in the past. I really liked this book and will read the others. For #hyggehour I am reading Magical Midlife Challenge- that i will write about soon. Finished this one Sunday with my mom- and I liked this one better. Cleo still annoys me with some of the inconsistencies the author uses for voice- very independent but sometimes very stilted. But the author uses others perspectives to help her grow. The mystery was good- and not quite who i thought it would be. I like that the family owns and lives in a hotel and how the staff interact.

Finished this during the Summer- I listen via TuneIn (they have audio books too!) When my mom and I are driving. These are not my favorite historic cozy mysteries- but enjoyable enough. The mfc lives in her uncles hotel in England, has a will they won‘t they with a detective she frequently partners with and help from cousins and the Hotel Staff.

I could not find these in the Litsy data base- just more fun in a magical town with cozy mysteries, two short stories one full length. They are all on kindle unlimited if anyone is interested in trying them out.

Grimoires and Gingerbread was not listed- it‘s a silly romp with Elves and Santa‘s secret of how he stays young has gone missing. It is a 1.5 before Mermaids and Meringue. Mermaids is book 2 the main character is trying to rescue a human turned into a mermaid, her family and friends help, and the cozy mystery is completely cozy. I am enjoying the series.

Trying to catch up on reviews- this was a #cbbc book- and I loved! It really was a fun adventure with a magical community, a witch who communicates with animals, a fun family, friends and bakery, cute sort of enemies to lovers ish but i like that the couple pair off from the beginning. I liked the mystery too.

@AllDebooks shared this thought and invited everyone for a check in (here or on her page)
Here it is cold. I exhausted because Obi cat woke me at 1am with a mouse he was playing with before eating. What kind of mouse goes in a home with 5 cats??? It was his growling at the other cats to stay away that woke me. I need a nap….

AmyG I am guessing the mouse was cold and looking for food. I will say, I do sleep a little better now that we don‘t have a cat. 🤣 (edited) 3mo

I actually liked this book. The story is written for middle grade- but as the characters in the story age i do wish the voice of the story aged also - so that is my main critique. In this one there are serious injuries that require healing. I think i would have liked more of the other characters in the story too- but i did enjoy the direction this book took.
