Garden Spells | Sarah Addison Allen
post image

Does anyone else love Sarah addison Allen as much as I do? In some ways she gave me sanity….I was feeling stressed and depressed with 2 very young children and saw a copy of Garden Spells - at the grocery store! It was an absolute total splurge for me at that time. But i remember reading it and the escape lightened my mood and gave me a much needed break. Anyone else have a book that really helped you through a hard time?

wanderinglynn I absolutely love her books! 2d

Pickpick

This was not my favorite Heyer- but a lot of that is because I do not speak French and was too tired to use google translate. The story was a Grease in reverse- and I liked the overall end result. Everyone wants Phillip to change- but when he does they realize the original was better.

mabell I didn‘t care for this one much at all 😆 3w
Chrissyreadit @mabell i was annoyed in parts and entertained in parts… 3w
CindyMyLifeIsLit I loved how he got revenge for their hurtful dissatisfaction with his authentic self. Be careful what you wish for! 😂 3w

TheAromaofBooks I think part of the problem is I set kind of high standards for Heyer, and this book didn't meet them 😂 It was fine as a random book, but didn't rank well on the Heyer scale!! 😆 3w

I love Stephen King- and my late 80‘s reading were full of King, Koontz and Saul. Margaret Atwood (also a favorite) wrote the intro to the 50th anniversary edition- and the Times shares it- It is filled with nuances and information that only make me love Stephen King even more.

planting plans? when do you start planning? What are you planning?
So far my plans are “sort of” simple. I‘m going to try and grow lavender from seed using my greenhouse- so i can plant it around the fenced in part of my yard. My other plans are zinnias and Sunflowers and wildflowers. My last plan is adding 2 plum trees and an apple tree- and using farmers markets for all my fresh food needs. #natuaralitsy #litsolace #springequinox

Princess-Kingofkings I placed an order from Burpee yesterday. For the first time, I ordered a Buddleia plant. They say the butterflies love it! 🦋 4w

A Rip Through Time: A Novel | Kelley Armstrong

Pickpick

I‘m in a mystery stage- and i do like time travel- this book is ok- a serial killer attacks in modern day Scotland and his Victim, a Canadian detective ends up in the body of a housemaid who had been attacked in the same place 150 years earlier. I read it fairly quickly- because skimming did not take anything away- and it was sort of procedural and predictable in think i would give it 3/5 stars.

AmandaBlaze Armstrong's Rockton series is a lot better, I think. 1mo

It‘s #hyggehour but i just finished my book… i wish Litsy had a “it‘s complicated” rating. It really took me a while to care about the characters of the book. But i love the book within a book theme- even though there are all animal based dishes and some vegan mocking- i could get to the gist and enjoy the idea. I did ultimately enjoy the characters by the end and am glad i read it. Good choice @julieclair

julieclair Glad you ended up liking it. I‘m not quite finished yet, but I agree that it took awhile for the characters to grow on me. 2mo
TheAromaofBooks I obviously had some mixed feelings as well 😂 Are we still on for Powder & Patch in March? Would you like to set up the Readalong on SG? 2mo
Chrissyreadit @TheAromaofBooks I‘m in for March. Still have to add to Story Graph for discussion. I‘m getting used to it- but am still adjusting to format. It has its advantages. what does everyone think? @julieclair @mabell 2mo
See All 14 Comments
julieclair I think I like the old LMPBC format better. I miss seeing everyone‘s handwritten comments in the margins. Plus, I love getting book mail. 📚💙📚 But if everyone else prefers this format, I‘m fine with that too. I love our group, no matter how we connect! @mabell @TheAromaofBooks 2mo
Chrissyreadit @julieclair as long as there is no stress if i‘m a week or 2 late sometimes mailing i like mail too- but i realize i‘m often not timely 2mo
mabell I‘m fine with either format. I‘ll get the read along set up for Powder and Patch. @julieclair @Chrissyreadit @TheAromaofBooks 2mo
mabell @julieclair @TheAromaofBooks @Chrissyreadit I should have asked first if everyone would like to switch back to a physical book rather than finish this round using the readalongs. If so, I can read this and send it on and Sarah could read Wind in the Willows and pass it on? 2mo
TheAromaofBooks Sorry @mabell for some reason I was thinking P&P was Chrissy's book!! I enjoy both formats for different reasons - it's fun to be able to read comments and interact with them, but I end up getting a more choppy reading experience because I have to stop reading every time I want to make a note/comment, if that makes sense. So overall I think I do prefer mailing. However, if @julieclair and Chrissy are good with it, we could finish this round with ⬇ 2mo
TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) SG and then decide what we want to do for the next round? 2mo

Late to the game but so interested in this- and how feminism is often portrayed as a negative where i live.

https://www.idrlabs.com/feminist-perspectives/test.php
just saw on @TieDyeDude ‘s page and then the bunny trail of everyone else who took it. Women‘s History Month is March- and good recommendations on modern feminist movements?

ElizaMarie Ours are very similar - I am posting now 2mo
IndoorDame If by modern you mean 4th wave and not some more specific term I‘m not familiar with, then my own renewed interest in feminism is due to a book club reading Good and Mad 7ish years ago. It turned into a consciousness raising session, and sparked me down a path that inspired lots of other reading. It does focus too much on white women, but it‘s an easy read for nonfiction, and the author‘s passion really comes through. 2mo

I highly recommend this book to People with ADHD, people with children with ADHD, people who are curious about neurodivergence and ADHD, counselors, teachers, medical professionals, friends of people with ADHD, coaches…. It is fairly succinct. Informative. Strategy and Solution focused, validating and science based.
When I taught a special education class in CO I was very lucky- the principal let me use my methods- my way. One of the most

Chrissyreadit important things i did was start every day with a run/walk- kids who ran came with me, kids who walked with my side. The results of progress for my class were significant and acknowledged at the County level- with All kids benefit from movement and outside time when possible. My greatest moments of anxiety and depression- after days of limited mobility- If there is one thing i would change in our education system it would be more time for 2mo
Chrissyreadit movement- running, walking, yoga, dance, any movement at any level of ability. And stop putting learning into a one size fits all structure. We know emphatically it does not work. 2mo

#mtcookbook - I‘m trying an approach that worked this week- Soup is my favorite food- and i love Paprika and mushrooms but wanted hearty vs a pre meal soup- so I added potato, cabbage, onion, garlic, white beans and kale- It worked!!!! I‘m calling it my Hungarian-Irish Stew. And it was a win with my mom and son too!

AileenRR Sounds yummy! 2mo

My sweet Saoirse on my lap, Enchantment is completed. I loved this book. I may have realized at moments i was hurrying and not as engaged and reminded myself the reading is also the experience. In slowing down at those times I found words and thoughts of value to me- that i would have otherwise missed. Glad this was the January buddy read for #midwintersolace

AllDebooks So glad you got so much from it x 2mo
