#NetGalleyGroup

It's time for another monthly catch-up with those lovely #ARCs for October's #NGG #Readathon 😊 Didn't it come around quickly?

Librarybelle It did come around quickly! 😂 I still need to post my reviews on NetGalley, so perhaps that should be my main goal for this weekend. I‘d like to read a book too to knock down my huge list of books, but we‘ll see. My reading time is very minimal at the moment. 6h
PuddleJumper I'm in denial, this month is flying by! I've got The Resurrectionist and The Gentlemen and his Vowsmith which I want to get done this month. I might get to them this weekend 6h
Bookish_Thoughts I have two reviews to post, so that‘s my weekend goal. I may get a book read, too. 🤞🏻 2h

My #HyggeHour starts early. I'm so excited to be reading this. My eldest has been raving about the #fanfic Manacled for a very long time.

A gothic doorstopper of a book makes me very happy. 🖤

TheBookDream Is it good? Got the signed copy at NYCC over the weekend, mostly to add an autograph from a famous AO3 author to my collection 😅 Don‘t know much about it 5d
AllDebooks @TheBookDream 😅 They had me at the prologue. I'm on chapter 3, locked in for the whole 1000 pages. 5d
Deblovestoread Just started the audio but stopped and ordered a physical copy. Think I will be reading between the two once I feel rooted in the world. 5d
AllDebooks @Deblovestoread I'm going to get the audio, too. This is definitely going to be revisited. 4d

Good morning, 👋

Grab a ☕️ and join in the #Chatterday chitchat.

All are welcome to join in. No topics are off the table. This is a safe place to share your thoughts, feelings, plans, and experiences. Just as you would with a friend in the real world.

What are your plans for today? I'm off to 4 years old birthday party at Tiny Town. Fun!!! 😀
Wishing you all a fab weekend. 🌞

Dilara Happy birthday to the 4-year old! We celebrated the grandkid's 4th birthday last week: they grow so fast.
My plans for the day are 1) go for a walk and enjoy the sunshine while it lasts; 2) go to the cinema for a special viewing of Gloria!, a film about the Venetian female musicians who interpreted Vivaldi's music: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2T0zvQOEDkw It may be cliché and rubbish or it may be great, but I am willing to risk €4 to find out😄
6d
Bookworm04 Aww hi everyone :) I no plans today so kindle out , brew made I can be me today and not be mum , carer , wife as everyone out and mum with dad at caravan so seems I have a day off :) 6d

Librarybelle Good morning! I‘m attending an author event today, but the rest of the weekend is catching up on chores, rest, and hopefully reading. I have had no time to read for long stretches of time in quite some time, and I miss it! 6d
peaKnit I am attending a history hike with a friend which has expanded to add checking out a winery and bookstore. 6d
peaKnit @Bookworm04 your day sounds lovely!! 6d
Bookworm04 @peaKnit aww thanks I managed to read 80 pages today which is rare. Might open some 🍷 and chill reading Book store and winery 👌 6d
Bookworm04 @Librarybelle I never get to read this long usually I glad talking to others while read. No one I know reads anymore which why glad have litsy I didn't use it much but going to use more now I talking to people :) 6d
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Greetings, Littens! I was exhausted, so I went to bed early last night & slept in today. My body needed the rest. It's gloomy here in NJ but a rainy nor'easter is in the weather report for the next two days so we'll likely run errands this afternoon so we can watch horror movies & clean while stuck inside. Fingers crossed, I'll get some reading in and a little time to do book nerd stuff. 🤓 6d

The Coin: A Novel | Yasmin Zaher
Pickpick

This was a difficult read due to the MC's risky behaviours and unsettling psychological state. Zaher packs a punch in a small volume, with her chosen themes of statehood and statelessness, inherited trauma, physical and mental displacement, mental health, loneliness and the risks of being vulnerable with others.

It was a fascinating read and I look forward to more from such an accomplished author.

AllDebooks It's a cold, blustery day here as #StormAmy wreaks havoc. I'm planning a hygge day, cosied up reading, writing the first email for #TheLittensSociety and catching up with my teens. What are your plans? 2w
Bookwormjillk @AllDebooks that sounds perfect! It‘s pleasantly chilly here. My son has a race this morning and then it‘s the big homecoming dance for the kids tonight. It‘s going to be a late night for me so I slept in a bit. 2w
kspenmoll It‘s cold here in CT but it‘s supposed to hit 80 later today! Wacky weather! Reading now, but I will be doing errands this morning, then plan one small house project, finally time to read on the porch before dinner. Stay cozy! (edited) 2w
See All 7 Comments
peaKnit @kspenmoll it‘s fall in the morning, summer in the afternoon in WI too. Brrr. I‘m headed off for a shift at the library. I overslept taking my college kiddo to a volunteer gig because my alarm was on silent (how does that happen?!) - my husband let me sleep. Folks, I never sleep, this is a miracle. 🌟 2w
Librarybelle I love the cool mornings (I‘m not a warm/hot weather person)! The weekend will fly by—I have a billion things to do but will most likely sit down and fall asleep. 😂 Have a good weekend everyone! 2w
quietlycuriouskate I'm meant to be on the Welsh coast now but because of Storm Amy we're not travelling until tomorrow 😒. On the plus side, multiple last-minute changes of plan have not triggered a meltdown so, given the circumstances, I'm actually feeling surprisingly buoyant. 2w
dabbe Our Pippa had an epileptic episode this morning, so we're laying low with her. She's doing fine now, but we'll be staying close and keeping an eye on her. Of course that means lots of cuddles and book reading. Have a lovely weekend, everyone! 🧡💜💛 2w

The whole world is a terrifying place with the rise of authoritarianism and fascism. The UK has turned into a sea of flag-shagging ignorance and dangerously misdirected hate and anger. I feel very afraid of where we are headed. Over the summer, a huge number of roundabouts and crossings have been defaced to depict St George's flag. It's funny that people fighting back have re-imagined these by changing them. One was turned into the 🇩🇰 flag, ⬇️

AllDebooks another into a battenberg cake. The government tolerance for such thuggish and threatening behaviour towards protesters at the Tommy Robinson protest last weekend was in stark contrast to the peaceful protests of Palestine Action demos over the summer. This world rn 😱🤬🤯 4w

Bookwormjillk You would think we would know better by now...yet here we are. We must all use our voices. 4w
Bookwomble It's a fucking shit-show, isn't it! Hearing King Charles praising Trump recently put me in mind of Spike Milligan's comment about him: Grovelling little bastard! It's sickening the way our establishment is sticking up to fascists. Didn't we say we'd learnt from the rise of Hitler that appeasement doesn't work with power-mad narcissists? 4w
Cuilin @Bookwomble I also thought about Chamberlain and the policy of appeasement this week. Ugh!!! @AllDebooks I can‘t believe they‘re arresting pensioners for protesting it‘s sickening. I have to brace myself checking the news in the US too. 4w
AllDebooks @Bookwomble honestly, it's absolutely terrifying. 4w
PuddleJumper I think Charles is a twat but it was disgusting to hear him praise Trump 4w
AllDebooks @PuddleJumper Absolutely vile. 4w
quietlycuriouskate The St George crosses showed up five minutes from my home this week, on a zebra crossing next to a school. Made my stomach drop when I cycled over it. I was scared as a kid growing up in the 80s that the bomb would be dropped any minute: I am in greater fear now than I was back then, and that is a horrible sickening thing to realise. 4w
AllDebooks @Cuilin I thought of Chamberlain and his 'peace in our time' mantra, too. There is little integrity in our elected politicians atm. It's going to be interesting when they are held to account. 4w
AllDebooks @quietlycuriouskate I know what you mean about the nuclear threat in the 80s. That fear was something that was always there but just under the surface. The state of the world now feels like constant danger 24/7, from multiple threats, and it is terrifying. 4w
quietlycuriouskate @AllDebooks Yep, that's about the measure of it. 😱 4w
AllDebooks @quietlycuriouskate look for the hope. There is hope. There are people fighting back and pushing for change. ✊️ 4w

See All 10 Comments
Librarybelle I‘ve yet to start a title for this weekend, but to respond to other questions: I read a mix of new and established authors. If it‘s an author I like, and I‘m invited to pre-approved to read the title, I grab it. If it‘s a new author but the story sounds good, and perhaps it has a good blurb featuring another author liking the book, I‘ll try it. Kind of like bookstore shopping too! 1mo
Deblovestoread Hey Deb! You can remove me from the tag list. Everything is a bit overwhelming right now so I‘m taking a break from challenges etc. Thank you! 1mo
Bookish_Thoughts Recommend-Murder in Miniature. It‘s the second book in the series, but you don‘t need to read the first to enjoy the second. Carlene O‘Connor Irish Village mysteries, Kate Khavari‘s Saffron Everleigh historical mysteries, Jacqueline Frost‘s Christmas Tree Farm mysteries, Amanda Flower‘s Amish Candy Shop series, Colleen Cambridge‘s Phyllida Bright series (Phyllida is Agatha Christie‘s housekeeper with her own secrets to keep). (edited) 1mo
Bookish_Thoughts As the ARC recs shows, I read mysteries. 🤣 I also read new and established authors and have discovered new favorites that way. Back to the recommend list-I‘ve read most, if not all, of the ARCs for the listed series, and then bought/pre-order the physical books. 1mo
DGRachel When it comes to any book, ARC or already published - new or established author, I‘ll read it when pre approved if it sounds good. I don‘t request books because I (silly me) rejections feel personal and I‘d rather wait for publication than be told no. 😅 As for genre - I tend to specialize in spurts, but my fallback/old standby is mystery/thrillers. I just finished the tagged, and I will read anything Morgyn writes. It was phenomenal. 1mo
JoyBlue One of my favorite ARCs ever was The Collected Regrets of Clover [2023], which was a fiction debut.

My favorite genre is mystery.

I request a mix of established and new authors. It has paid off handsomely! I have picked up quite a few new or new-to-me authors by being adventurous in my requests, including things I never would have tried on my own!

[This weekend, I finished A Mannequin for Christmas ARC and started The Killing Stones ARC.]
1mo
Justmissc87 I am currently reading Ladies in Hating ARC and am really enjoying it. 1mo

Hi, 👋
My apologies for my absence over the last few weeks. How are you all?
Grab a ☕️ and join in the #Chatterday chitchat.

All are welcome to join in. No topics are off the table. This is a safe place to share your thoughts, feelings, plans, and experiences. Just as you would with a friend in the real world.

Wishing you all a fab weekend. 🌞

Librarybelle Life has been hectic; no apologies necessary! I think I can relax most of this weekend. I‘ve barely had much downtime the last few weeks, and I have a few things on the horizon that will make it even less the rest of the year. But, it helps pay Zeke‘s medical bills (he‘s doing very well) and distracts from the world at large. I‘ll snatch reading time when I can! Hope all is well with everyone. 1mo
Cuilin No apology necessary, life can be that way. Hoping to relax, read and get a little outside time this weekend. Health has been up and down. Med changes, more testing. I‘m boring myself talking about it. 😴 1mo
Cuilin @Librarybelle Glad to hear Zeke‘s doing well. 1mo

AllDebooks @Librarybelle it's good to hear Zeke is still doing well. Have a relaxing weekend. X 1mo
AllDebooks @Cuilin oh no. Chronic illness is the worst. I hope you're okay and enjoy a bit of time in the sunshine. X 1mo
quietlycuriouskate Hello! I had hoped to be one month closer to menopause but, alas, this morning I've had to reset the timer to zero again. 😒 On the plus side, I went out and bought my spring-flowering bulbs. Just thinking of all the colour and joy they secretly contain is making me feel better. 1mo
TheBookHippie @quietlycuriouskate UGHHHHH my sympathies… yuk. 1mo
TheBookHippie @Cuilin Ha. Same. Hoping it ends up good for you. 1mo
TheBookHippie Migraine Clinic Monday. One of my meds side affects are too much so I‘m weaning off it… which will be 😵‍💫 it helped my essential tremor, anxiety, hot flashes and vertigo…. So yah. That‘s me. Otherwise trying to get by in this dumpster fire world and find joy. My sunflowers are starting to open up to show their flower and I am beyond excited. (edited) 1mo
TheBookHippie @Librarybelle glad he‘s well and you have the funds!!!! Sometimes busy helps!! ♥️ 1mo
Librarybelle Thanks, @Cuilin @AllDebooks @TheBookHippie ! I hope everyone feels better and has an opportunity to relax this weekend. ❤️ 1mo
dabbe @Librarybelle Yay for Zeke! Glad you're having a relaxing weekend and hope you can snag lots of reading time. 💜🧡💛 1mo
dabbe @Cuilin I never thought I'd have to say this, but isn't it nice when you have one day when you feel good for the ENTIRE time? I hope many more of those for you. Crossing everything I can for good testing results. 💜🧡💛 1mo
dabbe @quietlycuriouskate That beyond sucks. Glad you have the perfect way to handle that news. Have a relaxing day with your planting, and I'll be wishing for menopause to come soon! Such a hump to get over. 💜🧡💛 1mo
dabbe @TheBookHippie AUGH! Sending 💜🧡💛, my friend, and crossing my everything that you get these issues solved. Glad you have your zen garden and can't wait to see more pictures of it; it's zen for all of us. 1mo
dabbe No worries! Life has a way of getting in the way sometimes. 💜🧡💛 Finally got rid of all my sutures on my shoulder and had my first PT yesterday, which went amazingly well. Had to take pain meds later, but still! Looking forward to a walk with Matt & the pups, and a quiet day of reading and college footballs. Such a combo, right? Hope everyone has a lovely weekend. 💜🧡💛 1mo
Librarybelle Thanks, @dabbe and glad to hear PT went well! 1mo
dabbe @Librarybelle TY! 💛💜🧡 1mo

It's Friday! Are you ready to start our monthly #NetGalleyGroup readathon?

Share your goals for the weekend.
Connect with other #ARC readers.
Do you have an end of year goal?

All are welcome to join us. Please let me know if you wish to be added/removed from the taglist.

AllDebooks I'm concentrating on reviews this month. If I have time, I may start the Vivienne Westwood biography. 1mo
sebrittainclark I'm behind on reviews, so I want to catch up. 1mo
See All 23 Comments
rubyslippersreads Like the rest of you, I need to catch up on reviews. 1mo
ShananigansReads I‘m just behind on reading. The library holds are coming in fast and furious. New releases I‘ve been waiting for are dropping left and right and I haven‘t touched an ARC in way too long. 1mo
DGRachel I do my reviews as I finish the books, so like @ShananigansReads I‘m just behind on the actual reading. I started the month with a plan to keep up with new due dates and then decided I was tired of stress-reading. I started an ARC that publishes next March and took a leisurely 11 days to read it. It was glorious and I missed the pub date for 2 more books. My goal for the weekend is to start another ARC. Maybe. 🤔 1mo
mcipher I‘m so behind on reviews! Also behind on books (library holds and new shiny books keep distracting me) but I keep letting the reviews stack up because it‘s not as fun as reading 😝 1mo
AllDebooks @sebrittainclark @rubyslippersreads @ShananigansReads @DGRachel @mcipher Do you write reviews for post publication books? I've missed the pub. deadline by months on some of my #arcs. It seems polite to still write a review, but is this still of any value to the author/publishers? 1mo
DGRachel I write them when I finish even if I‘ve missed the pub date if for no other reason than I don‘t want to my % worse than it already is. Plus. I think reviews are always helpful, even if the publisher doesn‘t go back. I copy my review in NetGalley and The StoryGraph and I review everything I read so it‘s just as easy to post in both places as one. 1mo
Julsmarshall I do reviews right after I finish, even if it is late, like @DGRachel . I‘m in the middle of 2 ARCs, one printed, one in netgalley. I‘m going to try to finish both of those and maybe one more. I am going to try to let other things go this weekend and read, read, read. I‘ve been working a lot and haven‘t had a reading weekend in awhile 😍 Thanks for the push, @AllDebooks ! 1mo
ShananigansReads @AllDebooks I still write them after party because it‘s the only way I remember anything that happened in the book, partly because I said I would when I signed up. 1mo
sebrittainclark @AllDebooks I've written reviews over a year after the book published 🙈. I figure better late than never. 1mo
Bookish_Thoughts I‘m going to try read both an upcoming ARC and a past pub date ARC. 1mo
AllDebooks @DGRachel @Julsmarshall @shenaniganreads @sebrittainclark thanks for the feedback. I'm going to write reviews for all of my loans. I'll post on amazon, too, to make amends for my tardiness. 😅 1mo
mcipher @AllDebooks I do, and I post them to Amazon/b&n because I‘m assuming it still helps the author some 🤷‍♀️ 1mo
Librarybelle I like the catching up on reviews idea! I‘ll concentrate on that this weekend as well and maybe finish one of the “in progress” books I have. 1mo
Zuhkeeyah I finished two ARCs in the last couple weeks and wrote my reviews on Thursday. I‘m feeling very accomplished so I might not tackle anymore this weekend. 1mo
rubyslippersreads @AllDebooks I work backwards and write a review for the most-recently read books. That‘s about the best I can do. 😏 1mo
AllDebooks @rubyslippersreads that makes sense. It's a good tip. Thanks. 🙂 1mo
AllDebooks @Zuhkeeyah oh well done! 🙂 1mo
AllDebooks @Bookish_Thoughts good luck. Enjoy. 📚🙂📚 1mo
AllDebooks @Librarybelle I hope it's a productive weekend. 🙂 1mo
Justmissc87 I just started on NetGalley this month. I‘ve got some pretty good reads going right now. I‘ve been trying to review as soon as I finish the book. So far I‘ve only finished one book. I‘m trying to pace myself. Plus, I still have a huge fall TBR. 1mo

@LitsyEvents

PuddleJumper I'll skip this month. I'm traveling home that weekend and won't get much chance to read 1mo
Librarybelle I cannot believe we‘re already at the NetGalley weekend! I have to find the list I created last month—must have stuck it with receipts somewhere!—but will have a plan in place soon!! 1mo

Hi 👋

The last few months have been a real struggle for all of us. I've had a bit of a rest off the socials, and I'm coming back with a plan.
I take great comfort from connecting with and helping others. I'm thinking of starting a new page called #TheLittensSocietyClub as a means to do just that.
Postage has become too expensive, and I miss all the camaraderie of the card swaps. Ideas include an email check-in, ⬇️

🎨 @toyoufromsteph

AllDebooks Cont. quizzes, regular events and activities, etc. Please let me know if this would be of interest to you. I'll make a decision depending on your responses. X 1mo
Sace That‘s something I would be interested in. 1mo

Bookwormjillk Hello! I am waiting in my car for my son to get out of the SATs (testing for college) hoping he doesn‘t get out too soon because I want to catch up on my reading. After that it‘s a beautiful day and I want to be outside as much as possible. 2mo
ElizaMarie Husband and I are seeing KPop Demon Hunters sing-a-long. It so cute to see all the kiddos dressed up! But also- we don‘t have kids and hey - it‘s okay and doesn‘t matter! It‘s a great movie with great soundtrack 2mo
ElizaMarie @Bookwormjillk ooo hope y‘all go for a treat after! Maybe a place you can continue to read :) 2mo

kspenmoll @Bookwormjillk I hope your son was not too fatigued after testing - and that you got a couple if reading hours in! 2mo

kspenmoll My family went to Mystic Ct by the shore & indulged in lobster roll( me) & fat belly fried clams( hubby & son)- a last hurrah as I return to work Monday. Beautiful sunny day, if we hit 80 degrees the sea breezes made it seem cooler. I am stuffed & happy! 2mo
kspenmoll Can you tell me the author of #Naturalitsy sept book? I found 2 books with same title, Around the world in 80 trees 2mo
Bookwormjillk @kspenmoll @elizamarie he didn‘t think he did very well but was maybe just hungry because he came home and ate a huge lunch and was much happier. Hope you both enjoyed your days. 2mo
