Carrie | Stephen King

My introduction to Carrie was with the 2002 TV movie version. They changed the ending and left it without much closure, because I'm pretty sure they intended to drag it out into a series. Alas, that never happened. This version was pretty good, and I believe they modernized it to take place in the 2000s. But nothing compares to Sissy Spacek. Although, I haven't seen the most recent movie adaptation yet. #SawTheMovieFirst #StephenKing17

#SawTheMovieFirst I've seen many of the films before reading the books but It was the very first one. I saw it as a kid, the second time it aired on television, and I loved it. After seeing it was based on a book I begged my parents to take me to Walden's bookstore to see if they had it, and they did. This film is how I discovered King. One of the reasons I'm so fond of it. #StephenKing17 @Josie @Gayan

#sawthemoviefirst So imagine my surprise when I realized that they had actually toned down the novel for the movie. Newsflash and spoiler alert: she didnt use a sledge hammer to break his legs. The books was much worse.

Suzze Much. 8y
Mariposa_Bookworm One of my favorite novels of all time! 8y
KCorter By far the most frightening thing I've read. 8y

Bookzombie I just reread this one and they really did tone down the movie. I had forgot that the movie was different. 8y
prowlix But the movie is still so creepy! Kathy Bates and that hobbling scene gave me nightmares 8y
TheNextBook @Suzze I vividly remember putting the book down at this point and pouring a drink. 8y
TheNextBook @Mariposa_Bookworm This book was good! And essentially terrifying. 8y
TheNextBook @KCorter There is absolutely no way to make this a light read! 😂 She was as crazy as crazy could be. 8y
TheNextBook @Bookzombie I've said it before and I will say it again. King is the one author that they will have to tone movies down for. I think the ending of The Shining is much more terrifying than what happened in the movie. 8y
TheNextBook @prowlix Bates is an amazing actress which made reading the book that much more terrifying. I genuinely didnt think it could get worse in the book. 😳 I was terribly wrong! 8y
Suzze @TheNextBook I'll bet! It was a stomach turner for me. I'd have thrown it up. 😁 8y

#stephenking17 Day 9 It seems like I used to see a lot of SK's movies before reading the books. I saw Silver Bullet as a kid but didn't read the novella until last year. #sawthemoviefirst

Saw this movie, and sadly it was so bad that the book is still in my #TBR. Someday, maybe. Thankfully, there's still a bunch I haven't read, and he's generous enough to keep providing me with more material! 😜#sawthemoviefirst #StephenKing17

AdaChivers This movie is one of my guilty pleasures!!! *Hides* 8y
Reagan The book is so good! No contest! I do appreciate the movie for the kitsch factor though. 8y

Ericmanciniwriter The podcast How Did This Get Made did an episode on this movie and about how bad it is. Great listening 8y
CherylDeFranceschi @Eamann Thank you! I'll track it down. 8y
EricQiao This book was my DNF! I liked it but got sidetracked by other things. 😅 8y
annkuch13 @AdaChivers I love this movie, too!! Definitely used it as a test for a boyfriend to see if he liked similar stuff ad I do. @Reagan-reads is the book very similar to the movie? 8y
AdaChivers @annkuch13 the book is way better! That mind archive Works better in paper 😁 8y
annkuch13 @AdaChivers Cool! I'll move it up on my tbr! 8y
Reagan @annkuch13 it's been a long time but if I remember correctly it did follow pretty closely. It just wasn't very well done. I remember that the book really scared me at parts. 8y
Fortifiedbybooks I've learned over time to never judge a Stephen King book by its movie. The movies are always horrible in comparison. 8y
bio_chem06 @CherylDeFranceschi This is one of those movies that always makes the must see lists. I've never figured it out. I don't know why so many King movies are misses. I have tried 3 times to watch it, just can't get through it. 8y
CherylDeFranceschi @bio_chem06 We seem to be in the minority here, but I didn't love it. The BF thinks it is awesome, but I disagree. 8y

I #sawthemoviefirst many, many years ago. I haven't read the book but really should. #stephenking17 #day9 @Gayan @Josie

Bookscatsandcountry I also saw this movie first but have read the book since. You should definitely try it. It's good and one of Stephen King's shorter ones. 8y

I only just read the book a few years ago and didn't expect it to be so different from the movie. I like both but it's hard to compare them; the movie is so iconic but I liked the characters better in the book. I also loved the topiary animals, I thought that was the scariest scene #sawthemoviefirst #stephenking17
