Enjoy!
It‘s always such a treat to take a peek at a successful illustrator‘s sketchbooks and learn from his process. Especially if the artist is Shaun Tan. Absolutely loved it. It reminded me how grounding sketchbooks are and how ideas are not coming from the void, but through consistent practice.
🐚 I bought the tagged book at Land‘s End (SF)overlooking the ocean and one of the first pages I flipped to is a sketch of the ocean, the horizon, and the Land‘s End Rocks with the text, “That‘s it, breathe. Just take it slow,” which is something the ocean always seems to be saying to me.

#SpringIntoReading Day 8: #Birds reminded me of The Bird King, himself, the unparalleled Shaun Tan. It was a privilege to be allowed access to the subterranean depths of his mind in this book. The way in which he captured the very pulse of what it means to live and breathe the act of putting pen on paper, whether to sketch or shape into words that which is in his mind, seems like a gift to me. @julesG here is just one of the many pages Dürer filled in his notebooks in preparation for his Adam and Eve. It‘s very reminiscent of Da Vinci. I think we were definitely on to something with that comparison.
