I‘m late to the party with this….but this book is fantastic. I don‘t think I‘ll ever forget Demon Copperhead. It‘s touched on so many devastating social issues but remained uplifting!
Brilliant writing ❤️

Omg, that took a lot of doing! Am very proud of myself to have received my 200 reviews badge on NetGalley.

My rating, however, has fallen from an already pitiful 30% to 21% so I've still got a lot of work to do !

Alfoster Woohoo!👏 2y
TheSpineView Awesome! 🥳🥳🥳 2y

shanaqui By rating, you mean the proportion of reviews you've written compared to the number of review copies you've had, right? Yeah, mine needs work too. Dx 2y
readingjedi @shanaqui Yes, that right. It doesn't help that I can't stop myself from requesting more, More, MORE! But my reasoning is - what self-respecting book lover wouldn't?! 2y
shanaqui @readingjedi I keep including an ARC or two in my #BookSpin lists... But not enough to help me keep up. 😅 Good luck to us both with catching up?! 2y

🎧 Communications & social psychology taught by a self proclaimed recovering awkward person.

Interesting & humorous. Expertly read by the author.

The author covers a year in his life as an anti-social behaviour officer in a very similar style to Adam Kay's accounts of being a junior doctor. His stories range from bizarre and hilarious to some that are desperately sad. I thought he walked the line between compassion and humour very well.

Despite the warmth and humour it is largely written with the subject matter is tough, including real accounts of drug use, homelessness and abuse.

Loving this one so far and enjoyed seeing this passage from when the author was talking to a co-worker. It's the exact same 'why would you do that..?' tone that I have had from some family and friends when they hear what I've done with my spare time.

'So you just sat in on Friday night reading a book...and that's it?'

1. Just be yourself and don‘t worry about whether people like you.
2. I like to dress as my cat for Halloween, even at work.

TheAromaofBooks

So I've blogged on Wordpress for over ten years. Recently, they switched to the Block Editor, which I absolutely hate. You can kind of use the Classic Editor but it's a hassle to get to. Today when I logged on the entire dashboard has been completely “updated“ & is an absolute nightmare. For instance, I have individual pages to link to books I've reviewed by specific authors. Those are now listed by which ones have been most recently updated ⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) instead of in alphabetical order, with no option for sorting them any other way. The whole thing is a disaster.

All this to say - does anyone out there blog anywhere besides Wordpress? I just want my old, simple, straightforward blog host back where I type out a review & add one picture & move on. I don't need all this stupid drag & drop & each paragraph is its own little mini-blog & you can make it cool & shiny & everyone will want ⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) to pay you money!!! I literally just want to write basic book reviews so I can look them up five years from now when I'm trying to remember whether or not I liked that one book.

So if anyone is using a different blog host that they like & that has a simple interface, please let me know. I'm in the market to move because Wordpress is sending me over the absolute edge with their “updates.“

Nebklvr I hate the new version too 3y

EvieBee Ugh! I understand completely. I went back to blogger and I‘ve enjoyed it. Gradually, they too have changed things to a newer platform that doesn‘t allow as much customization as before, but it‘s still very good considering it‘s free. 3y
TheAromaofBooks @Nebklver - I was somewhat able to work with the block editor even though I think it's awkward, clunky, and completely unintuitive, but the latest update that has changed the entire dashboard, how I access different aspects of the blog, my ability to find/edit Pages & Posts - it's SO horrible. I've used & loved WP for so many years & hate to leave it behind, but I can't deal with these updates any more! It's sucked the joy out of blogging for me. 3y
TheAromaofBooks @EvieBee - Blogger was definitely one of the ones I was thinking of checking out. I'm totally cool with minimal customization because that's just not important to me. I'd be happy with a page that looks like a Word document haha ... hmm, maybe I should just be typing into a Google document & sharing that 😂 3y
julesG I hate the new version too. I used to blog with Google's Blogger, but I don't think it's much better. 3y
DogMomIrene It‘s been 4 years since I used a free Weebly site for my classroom, so I don‘t know how “shiny” they are now. The drag & drop blocks were easy to add/manipulate. Generally, I had my lessons typed up separately, so I would copy & paste onto my “daily lessons & homework” page. I added other pages for special projects. Easy to add a picture block & move it around. At the time Weebly used themes, so one of the education ones might suit you. 3y
DogMomIrene I use Squarespace for my dog blog, which I do monetize. Squarespace is shiny, for sure, but I‘ve been using them since 2014, and I like how they‘ve developed. If you‘re looking at Squarespace and have questions, please feel free to ask. I‘m not an affiliate for them since I‘m not B2B marketing. I‘m just a happy Squarespace blogger. 3y
TheAromaofBooks @DogMomIrene - Thank you for your thoughts!! I will definitely check out both of those options. I'm just glad to even get some names of options since I'm not sure what choices are even out there!! 3y
Bookwormjillk I use Squarespace as well. I like it- very clean and easy to use. 3y
TheAromaofBooks @Bookwormjillk - That is good to know!! Thank you!! 3y

This was good, but not sure I was in the head space for such a research focused book. Book club pick.
