Pickpick

The #higherground of the Alps provides healing in this classic. Heidi goes to live in the mountains with Alm-Uncle and quickly discovers the beauty of living in nature. When she is forced to live in Frankfurt she prays for a return to the mountains. Faith, family, and friendship all figure heavily in this book, which I adored as a child (leading to a years along obsession with Switzerland and goat‘s milk). #heroine #getmovin #litsyclassics

Lcsmcat Did you share this with @KassKho last year when she was doing #theheidiproject? It‘s a beautiful edition!! 7y
Blaire @Lcsmcat no! I didn‘t know about that. @KassKho it is one of my favorites and my dad got me this edition for my 30th birthday a while back. It is one of my favorite possessions. 7y

BarbaraTheBibliophage Such a great pick! We watched the movie recently with our granddaughter and loved it! 7y
Cinfhen This photo is stunning! Nice job on the #multitasking 🤓👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 7y
Bambolina_81 Great choice. I love that photo! 7y
Centique I love Heidi so much, as a kid wanted a bed made up for me out of straw along with a cheese sandwich and a glass of milk! 7y
Blaire @Cinfhen thanks! My stepdad took that picture when he and my mom honeymooned in Switzerland. 7y
Blaire @BarbaraTheBibliophage the Shirley temple one? I need to watch it with my kids. 7y
Blaire @Bambolina_81 thanks!! It‘s one my stepdad took in Switzerland 7y
Blaire @Centique yep! That was me. When we had to a report on a country in grade 4, I picked Switzerland because of this book and pretended to be Heidi eating cheese and tending to goats a lot. 7y
Centique @Blaire awww that‘s cute 😍 7y

@KassKho #theheidiproject is probably finished, but I saw this in an antique store and thought of you. I think it's from 1944

KassKho It is! But thank you for sharing! I feel like a lot people now think of me when they see Heidi :p it's a fun association 7y

I haven't bought any of these Puffun/Pantone books yet, but they're very tempting. Although I think The Wizard of Oz should have a rainbow spine, not just yellow. 😀🌈

(Photo from Martha Stewart.) #stripes #junebookbugs

Also, here's another Heidi for #theheidiproject, @KassKho

AnnieReads Pretty spines! 8y
KassKho Thank you! 8y
Arbol I did NOT need another copy of Anne of Green Gables. Or maybe I did. 8y

Laura317 They must have picked yellow for the yellow brick road. 8y
Kalalalatja Why haven't I seen these before 😍 8y
rubyslippersreads @Arbol I don't either. Or maybe I do. 😄 8y
rubyslippersreads @Laura317 I'm sure that's it, and I know the rainbow is a movie thing, not a book thing, but still ... 😊 8y
LauraBeth These are beautiful! 8y
rubyslippersreads @Kalalalatja I don't think they're all out yet, but I've seen Anne and Heidi at Barnes & Noble. 8y
LyndseyReads Ooooooh! 😍 8y
rubyslippersreads @KassKho You're welcome! 😀 8y
Redwritinghood Pretty! Those would look great on a shelf. If only I had any shelf space open . . . 8y

I found this at my library book sale yesterday and brought it home for #theheidiproject Hope it's not too late!
Also, the illustrations are done by Jessie Wilcox Smith who was a famous local artist. I had just attended a discussion of her life at the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

kspenmoll Such a beautiful cover!!! Those curls! Reminds me of Shirley Temple movie. (edited) 8y
DivineDiana @kspenmoll I have never read the book. Only saw the Shirley Temple film. So was quite surprised to read that the character is dark haired! 8y
KassKho Thanks for this! I have to finish the assignment tonight so I'll add this in :) 8y
DivineDiana @KassKho Wonderful! It is published by Books of Wonder, a NYC children's book store. Good luck with your assignment! 8y

@KassKho Here is my copy of Heidi for #TheHeidiProject. Its copyright date is 1901 from A. L. Burt Publishing Company. H. A. Melcon was the translator. It has full color illustrations by Anne Merriman Peck every few chapters. My friend who owns and runs a coffee shop and used bookstore sold it to me.

Heidi books on my shelves for #theheidiproject @KassKho

On "my" shelves but taken from my sister many years ago; it's all water under the bridge now. ? The Heidi book (right) is by an Indian press, St. Paul Publications, and it's from 1976 with illustrations by Ian Pinto. And I just realised that Heidi Grows Up was written by Charles Tritten, Spyri's translator. This edition is also from 1976, by The Children's Press.

LeahBergen I read that exact edition of Heidi Grows Up! 8y
JazzFeathers What is the Heidi Project? This is the second post l see about it 8y
batsy @JazzFeathers For a children's lit class, @KassKho is looking at different covers of Heidi editions throughout the years. So we're invited to share ours if we have a copy :) 8y

erzascarletbookgasm I read the exact edition of Heidi. I remember owning it but must have lost it long ago. (edited) 8y
batsy @LeahBergen Nice! That's the fun part about sharing childhood classics. @erzascarletbookgasm I'm not sure how our copy has managed to stay in one piece 😀 8y
KassKho It's funny that you mentioned the translator! I was just reading notes for the class that mentions the translator for Heidi was often omitted making it hard to discern the difference in translations and the choices they made 8y
batsy @KassKho The translator is not credited in these editions either! I only know that he was the translator because I looked him up as the author of Heidi Grows Up (I wasn't aware that Spyri wasn't the author of the follow-up 😳) 8y

Here are my Heidis for #theheidiproject. The one with the blue cover was published in 1921 and has lovely illustrations by Maginel Wright Enright. The other two are approximately from the 1960s, although the one on the bottom right is copyright 1945.

KassKho This is awesome! I really didn't think I would find a lot of copies of Heidi, and you have two! 8y
rubyslippersreads @KassKho Three, actually. 😊 8y
KassKho 😆my bad three! I misread the post 8y

rubyslippersreads @KassKho This is a great project--it's fun seeing all the different editions and sequels. 😀 8y
KassKho Hey @rubyslippersreads would you be able to give me the year, publishing house and city your editions are from? 8y
rubyslippersreads @KassKho The blue copy: 1921, Rand McNally & Company, Chicago, New York. 8y
rubyslippersreads @KassKho Shirley Temple edition, Random House, New York. It's undated, but I'm guessing it's from the 1960s, since the jacket flap mentions Shirley's TV series, and I believe that's when it aired. 8y
rubyslippersreads @KassKho The Illustrated Junior Library edition, 1945, Grosset & Dunlap, Inc. Not sure of the city; it mentions using a previous 1927 Ginn & Co. translation, so I don't know which edition Kingsport, Tenn. refers to. 8y
