I've never tried a challenge of this sort before, so I'm not sure how far I will get. However, I printed out a blank map of Europe and will go from there. And I definitely have been wanting to reread the tagged book, so I have at least ONE idea so far! :-D

If you're interested, check out the hosts' pages for a link to the sign-up form!!

BarbaraBB Thank you for sharing. Looking forward to a year of reading and posting about European books! ❤️ 2mo
Librarybelle Thanks so much for sharing! So glad you can join us! 2mo
TheAromaofBooks @BarbaraBB @Librarybelle - thanks for hosting!! I've never tried this type of challenge, so I'm excited about it. And it's even inspired me to finally start cataloguing all my books onto LibraryThing so I can sort them by location more easily! 2mo

BarbaraBB That‘s a nice job for the weekend, cataloguing your books 😍 2mo
TheAromaofBooks @BarbaraBB - I'm always looking for new ways to track them haha I do technically have every title entered in a spreadsheet so that I can track if/when they have been read. But entering them via LibraryThing means I can also sort them by tags, which is pretty nifty. Over a thousand of them so it will take a little time!! 2mo
Librarybelle I love LibraryThing, and I heavily use the tagging feature. Very time consuming, but also very rewarding! 2mo
BarbaraBB @Librarybelle @TheAromaofBooks Me too, I love LT for cataloguing and tagging! 2mo
TheAromaofBooks @Librarybelle @BarbaraBB - while we are on the topic of LT and tags, do either of you happen to know if it's possible to just copy community tags for a book onto mine? For instance, I add a book I own. I can look at the book on LT and see what tags other members have used for the same book. Is there a way to bulk add those tags, or do I just need to add tags for each title on my own? Lots of times other members have much better tags than I do! 2mo
Librarybelle That‘s a good question! I‘ve not tried to do that on my account. I usually just retype any tag I like better than mine. If you do discover a way, please let me know. That would save some time! 2mo
BarbaraBB I don‘t know either. But we can always ask @TimSpalding 2mo
TimSpalding @BarbaraBB No. I understand why you might want it, and I think it might be good if we made community tags—or at the least the top X tags per book—available in this way. But part of the point of tags is to encourage members to use what comes to their mind for books, and develop their own system. If we allowed members to skip that, and use each other's tags, we'd get less interesting tags—and I think members would have less interesting tags too. 2mo
TheAromaofBooks @TimSpalding - thank you! That does make sense, although it may be helpful to have a handful of common tags to “checkbox add“ for starters. I'm really enjoying getting my books added into the system!! 2mo

I never read Heidi as a child, so I don‘t have any sentimental strings attached. I don‘t feel this one has aged as well as other children‘s books from the mid to late 1800‘s, like Little Women. It was also quite preachy, esp the 2nd half. It is a sweet story.

It did fill a lot of prompts!

LibrarianRyan I agree. 4mo
Cinfhen I‘m not sure if I could make it through a preachy tome written in the late 1800s 😜 sounds like torture 4mo
4thhouseontheleft @Cinfhen It wasn‘t too heavy-handed, and it was all in the 2nd half, so I was already committed by the time I reached it. I probably would have bailed if Heidi didn‘t ✔️ so many reading challenge prompts! And it‘s a quick read. 4mo
4thhouseontheleft @Cinfhen It does make the very short list of books I won‘t recommend to Maya. 😂 4mo
BarbaraTheBibliophage Who picked these prompts, anyway! 🤪👊🏻♥️ 4mo

I started off thinking I‘d rate this read of it (an audio) 4 stars, I decided on 3.5 (good). I suspect it might have been better to read it, rather than listen; however, fond memories remain. I did enjoy the reminder of what actually happened in the book (although it does seem I missed bits and pieces, here and there – I suspect I wouldn‘t have if I‘d not listened to the audio).

#wanderingjune @Cinfhen @BarbaraBB This classic of my childhood reminded me of #mountains. And when you google images of the book it‘s all about the Alps.

TheAromaofBooks Oh, I have always loved this book. Did you ever read any of the sequels? 7mo
StayCurious @TheAromaofBooks no but I‘d like to. I recently bought this copy of the book - I‘ll keep my eyes out for the others 🙂 7mo
TheAromaofBooks Since the others weren't written by Spyri, I don't think they were quite as popular. I remember enjoying Heidi Grows Up, but don't really member much about it. I haven't found a copy of Heidi's Children yet. I have a few other Spyri books on the shelves that I have picked up at secondhand shops over the years, but have never actually read! 7mo
BarbaraBB I loved Heidi too as a child. Perfect choice! 7mo
Cinfhen Great choice and another beautiful photo!!! I don‘t remember reading Heidi but I‘m sure there was a cartoon I saw! 7mo

Pickpick

Heidi, by Johanna Spyro, Best Children‘s Literature, literary fiction, read aloud. The story is an orphan girl, Heidi was sent to live with her grandfather who went to live in the Alps. This is a touching story as her grandfather turns out to be welcoming and loving and let‘s Heidi live in the mountains. Heidi loves living up in the Alps. TracyHayes Interesting, I‘ve never heard of this book before. Thank you for sharing it! 7mo

Heidi books on my shelves for #theheidiproject @KassKho

On "my" shelves but taken from my sister many years ago; it's all water under the bridge now. ? The Heidi book (right) is by an Indian press, St. Paul Publications, and it's from 1976 with illustrations by Ian Pinto. And I just realised that Heidi Grows Up was written by Charles Tritten, Spyri's translator. This edition is also from 1976, by The Children's Press.

LeahBergen I read that exact edition of Heidi Grows Up! 3y
JazzFeathers What is the Heidi Project? This is the second post l see about it 3y

batsy @LeahBergen Nice! That's the fun part about sharing childhood classics. @erzascarletbookgasm I'm not sure how our copy has managed to stay in one piece 😀 3y
KassKho It's funny that you mentioned the translator! I was just reading notes for the class that mentions the translator for Heidi was often omitted making it hard to discern the difference in translations and the choices they made 3y
batsy @KassKho The translator is not credited in these editions either! I only know that he was the translator because I looked him up as the author of Heidi Grows Up (I wasn't aware that Spyri wasn't the author of the follow-up 😳) 3y

All my #onewordtitles I read Heidi as a kid, probably just the abridged version though. I should give it another try now. Yet another book to add to the TBR stack!

Crinoline_Laphroaig Dear Sweet Heidi!#time4reread I haven't read her in ages. I'm 50 years old and still eat bread & cheese and call it a Heidi Sandwich. 3y
Marchpane @missnavigation I also loved Heidi (and its sequels) as a kid. Made warm goat's milk sound appetising 😂 3y
Daisey All day I've been looking at these one word title posts and seeing books from my shelves that I did not think of, like Heidi (loved it as well!) and a couple of the books in that Francine Rivers series. Great choices! 3y

[DELETED] 3517561138 @Marchpane I do remember the warm goat's milk and I do remember thinking it sounded so appealing. Now the thought of it makes me gag! 3y
[DELETED] 3517561138 @missnavigation bread and cheese is a good combo anytime! I'm excited to reread this book now. 3y
[DELETED] 3517561138 @Daisey that Francine Rivers series was a good one wasn't it? I love a good Biblical story that has had some meat added to the bones. 3y
Marchpane @Prairiehomelibrarian and the milk was always served in a bowl and the bread and cheese came in hunks, not slices. So rustic! 3y
Daisey @Prairiehomelibrarian Yes, I think that series and The Scarlet Thread are my favorites of her books. 3y

My dear grandmother, who passed away last year, used to read an illustrated Heidi to me as a small child. I was heartbroken when that book got lost and haven't read the story since. But since buying this beautiful edition I can't wait for the right moment to read it again ❤

JanuarieTimewalker13 I loved Heidi also and I owned the book as a child!! Mine is long gone also😐 3y
JanuarieTimewalker13 That is a beautiful edition!! Enjoy!!! 3y
JanuarieTimewalker13 @Eyglo i was just searching on GR at all the different editions of Heidi..there are 842 editions!! I was looking for one that looked familiar to me, but couldn't find it...I know the Heidi on my cover was blonde...but there are a lot of brunettes too...it looks like your edition is a 2014 reprint...and it looks familiar to me, I wonder what year it was originally printed? 3y
Eyglo @JanuarieTimewalker13 The cover design on my edition is from 2014 but the translation is from 1956 😊 I didn't either find my grandmother's edition on GR, but it has been over 20 years since I saw it + it was in Icelandic! 3y
JanuarieTimewalker13 @Eyglo wow!! That's cool !!! I wonder if that was the edition I had in the mid to late 1960s 3y

I've read a lot of middle grade books as an adult thanks to my kids, but for today's #funfridayphoto I chose a book dear to me in childhood. I loved the story (and movie!) of Heidi, and the book itself felt special to me as a child - a nice, hefty book with wonderful illustrations.

The last of the #lilbookishseptember post, and the challenge is for a classic... And I chose "Heidi" because it was the first classic my eyes happened upon at the library ? and I've so many gorgeous autumn posts on my feed lately, I just thought I'd add a little spring to the mix ??

What's your favorite classic? I have to admit I'm a sucker for all things Jane Austen.
