Texas, 1934. I found this book slow in the beginning but picked up soon after. Loved the history of the dust bowl days and the Great Depression. A very heartbreaking story. Although this book was written well, I think I enjoyed all her other books more. I just could not connect with the characters. If you have never read Hannah‘s books, don‘t start with this one.

Aims42 This was my first Kristin Hannah book and I loved it! I had ‘Wintergarden‘ on my TBR pile for a couple of years so I immediately started it after ‘Four Winds‘. Now I know to always have a box of tissues nearby LOL 3y

EadieB @Andrew65 The one we read as a group was The Great Alone which takes place in Alaska. This one is mostly historical fiction. It was too sad and depressing. 3y

EadieB @Andrew65 Jewell‘s books also have more mystery and intrigue and I think that‘s what‘s lacking in Hannah‘s books. They are more fiction than mystery. 3y

Crazeedi @EadieB thanks Eadie! I hear you about the author. I don't really need the mystery but I do like cohesion and a well paced story line. I read a book a while ago about dust bowl, I think a NF. It was eye opening 3y

A wonderful tale of human endurance and perseverance against the extreme vagaries of nature and callous administration! Added to that, is the abhorrent social ostracisation from the affluent to the deprived and the entire scenario becomes hopeless and painful....😭

A theme of Kristin Hannah‘s books seems to be about women fighting for survival against all odds. #TheFourWinds may be my favourite novel of her. It deals with The Great Depression, poverty, migration and the worker‘s movement. I raced through it, not wanting it to end. Gorgeous writing, and you should bring tissues.
