Texas, 1934. I found this book slow in the beginning but picked up soon after. Loved the history of the dust bowl days and the Great Depression. A very heartbreaking story. Although this book was written well, I think I enjoyed all her other books more. I just could not connect with the characters. If you have never read Hannah‘s books, don‘t start with this one.

Aims42 This was my first Kristin Hannah book and I loved it! I had ‘Wintergarden‘ on my TBR pile for a couple of years so I immediately started it after ‘Four Winds‘. Now I know to always have a box of tissues nearby LOL 4y

EadieB @Andrew65 The one we read as a group was The Great Alone which takes place in Alaska. This one is mostly historical fiction. It was too sad and depressing. 4y

EadieB @Andrew65 Jewell‘s books also have more mystery and intrigue and I think that‘s what‘s lacking in Hannah‘s books. They are more fiction than mystery. 4y

A wonderful tale of human endurance and perseverance against the extreme vagaries of nature and callous administration! Added to that, is the abhorrent social ostracisation from the affluent to the deprived and the entire scenario becomes hopeless and painful....😭
