A heartwarming story about a mother and daughter in wartime England and the power of the books that bring them together. Emma Taylor needs to find a job to support herself and her daughter. She is a single mom and there is a war going on and Germany is bombing England. She signs up to send her daughter, Olivia, to the countryside to escape the bombs.

EadieB Books are mysteriously mis-shelved and disappearing, and her work forces her to confront the memories of her late father and the bookstore they once owned together before a terrible accident. I loved this story. There are many books mentioned throughout the book. Books that people are reading in order to not think about the bombs being shelled all over England. 7h
EadieB If you like stories about books and bookshops you will love this book. As the Blitz intensifies in Nottingham and Emma fights to reunite with her daughter, she must learn to depend on her community and the power of literature more than ever to find hope in the darkest of times. Highly recommended! 7h

It was a strange feeling to read this story about German POWs in lower Michigan during WWII. I never knew POW camps existed in Michigan until I was an adult, and to discover this story has a connection to the teeny (teeny) tiny town I spent my early childhood in was just bizarre. I enjoyed the verse and the POVs of these two characters. I did not enjoy the very abrupt ending, though it's certainly fitting in any book on WWII.
