I accidentally used a Everand credit on this when I meant to grab Yukon Alone. After a half hour of confusion about the book being about King Salmon and not an adventure race I figured it out and found the book very interesting. King salmon run along the Yukon River but like many other species are suffering with climate change and overfishing. The author takes a canoe trip to talk to the people who live along the river and see the salmon.

I listened to Armstrong‘s foray into writerly romance novels in the wrong order— this one actually came out last year, but after loving WRITING MR. WRONG, I couldn‘t resist using an Audible credit! Daphne submits her zombie YA novel under a male pseudonym & is shocked when her wildest dreams come true for her writing but she needs to hire an actor to be the face of Zane Remington. And Chris, though not actually an actor, steps in & sparks fly!

willaful Sounds like a hat tip to Remington Steele... 5mo
TorieStorieS @willaful I didn‘t even think of that! 😊 5mo

KA‘s first rom-com, and it‘s great! Daphne‘s a rugged outdoorswoman trying to get her novel published, and Chris becomes the face of her pseudonym. What could go wrong? I loved it.

Good read. The author uses her great-great-great aunts writings from her trek to the Yukon to stake their claim in gold. Dual timeline, the 1898 timeline and the history of striking gold was the majority of this book. Money creates problems. The Han tribe that lived on the Yukon River and the gold rushers that took their chances all either triumphed or suffered from the gold found in that region. Alice‘s story is both brave and cunning.

Last weekend, our area got 30cm of snow, and it put me in the mood to read the next book in remote and wintry Rockton. It's definitely more fun reading about snow than shovelling it! This was a good page-turning mystery/thriller.

LiseWorks Great series, we got 30 cm on a Thursday and then 30 more on Saturday. 😉 9mo
TheAromaofBooks Woohoo!!! 9mo
kwmg40 @LiseWorks Wow, that is definitely more snow than we got here in Southwestern Ontario, but I'm originally from Montreal, so I've seen some pretty massive snowfalls. I hope you're all dug out now. 9mo

Murder at Haven's Rock | Kelley Armstrong

Casey and Eric have left the toxicity of Rockton behind. Unfortunately their dreams for Haven‘s Rock aren‘t starting off as planned. Unexpected neighbors, mining exploration, missing crew members, and an accelerated schedule for their new residents pile on the pressure. This was a good spin off from the Rockton novels.

Really liked this romance book! Daphne is a write who submits her book under a male name. It gets picked up and now she has to hire someone to be Zane. Mostly set in Canada but they do go on a book tour through the US.

Another detective series I started but this one I won't continue. An interesting concept (it follows homicide detective Casey Duncan in the hidden Rockton, a small, off-the-grid town in the wilderness of the Canadian Yukon where people go when they wish to disappear) but I didn't care much for the characters (as compared to those in For Reasons Unknown that I reviewed yesterday).

And of course there are only so many thriller series I can handle!

TrishB I started one last month that I‘m not sure about. May try second one just to check! 13mo
BarbaraBB @TrishB With the speed you‘re reading I would too 😉 I however must choose my battles 😀 13mo
