You all must be thinking (I'm just joking, you have important things to do) that have I completed "Charlie and the great glass elevator'? ? The answer is No. I have not. I'm close to completing it but homework and house chores got in the way ?
This book is so great! Sill reading it though! The writing is really simple to read. I hope to complete it today, if I can :P Recommend it to all of you! But first you have to read "Charlie and the chocolate factory".
Which books are you reading??? @Booksanduniverse @Mavey
It was OK. I can‘t help thinking if a child read this they‘d get bored and shifty. It felt like he had a hard time with this one, and it doesn‘t end well. He actually started a third but only got into one chapter which is probably for the best. I did enjoy his disdain for politicians in here. The ‘Chinese speak‘ was a bit weird, but not actually that bad considering his vintage? Every time I looked at the cover I saw the elevator as a joint haha
Plus: I now know where Vermicious Knids came from, which appears in family jargon occasionally.
Minus: everything else about this book.
Racism, sentient malevolent...turds? (See above, the Knids), de-aging and re-aging vitamins...and no framing story of any sense or consequence. Do yourself a favor and don‘t read this.
I‘m about 1/3 in and really can‘t wait for this to be over. If it wasn‘t short I‘d ditch it. I know Dahl tends toward the goofy, but this...is just dumb so far.
The sequel to Charlie and Chocolate Factory. The whole family go on board of the Great Glass Elevator to go back to live in the Chocolate Factory. The whole book goes from one adventure to another all caused because the grandparents are terribly annoying and complaining all the time. Wonka is too much Wonka and seems to have less magic and more senseless craziness in this book. I didn't enjoy it at all, although my nephews still liked it
It was over all a good story. Several racist bits that were not ok, I believe this was written in the 60s but that doesn‘t excuse it.
I like Dahl‘s writing and his creativity. This doesn‘t hold up the The Chocolate Factory but it‘s a nice continuation.
⭐️⭐️⭐️1/3
A little #audiocleaning while I can stand it. It‘s warm and yucky today and of course I sweat like a sinner in church.
I suppose I‘m just going to work my way through the Roald Dahl children‘s library lol
Wonka and Charlie are in a giant glass elevator, rocketing through the sky.Wonka just offered his factory to Charlie. They then go to Charlieś home to tell his family the news. They crash straight through the roof of Charlie´s house shocking Charlie´s family
Currently 👓 my brother's Roald Dahl book📖 from when he was in 4th grade 8 years ago

I felt like this one was far out into space. And not in a good way.

It's been...five years(?) since I read the first one, but you don't really need to in order to read this. It would give you context for the characters, but the story is almost completely separate from Willy Wonka's factory. The narration on this one was great. I enjoyed the story as well, but it felt a little more disjointed than the first book. I can see how it probably inspired Douglas Adams in HGttG. Overall, a fun little book. First of 2019!
Starting this sequel while I get some baking done for tonight! It's been a while since I've read the first one, but this is pretty crazy! #audiobaking
Today's prompt reminds me of Charlie, #aspacemancametraveling, back from his hilarious visit to the space. #gobblefunk

5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️‘s I have yet to be disappointed by a roald Dahl book another cute story. I love how short the books are and how I can finish them in one day :)
I read this with my six year old daughter, the first time for both of us. We agreed that it just didn't have the same magic as Charlie and the Chocolate factory.
This book is bonkers ridiculous and not ashamed of it. But it is entertaining and scary how much I can imagine Trump tweeting all the stuff Dahl attributes to the American President in this book.
We got little man the second Charlie book as a surprise, and he hasn‘t wanted to put it down since. So glad he loves books like me. #CCF #readaloud
I loved reading all of these books when I was younger and this one is a classic. "Charlie and The Great Glass Elevator" by Ronald Dahl, Illustrated by Quentin Blake. The last everyone saw of Charlie he had won an endless supply of chocolate and Willy Wonkas factory. To celebrate Wonka toke Charlie and his Grandfather on a ride in his glass elevator, no one could have guessed what happened next. As the glass elevator shot through the sky..
Launching into this with 6-year old Bella after a few anti-chapter-book weeks. She's skeptical "...it can't be as good as the Chocolate Factory..." and I've never read it. Wish us luck! The question is whether she lets me make it to the end, she fully exercises her "rights of the reader" and can be ruthless if she's not impressed!??
The kids wanted to start the sequel the very moment we finished listening to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and not even rain could stop them from getting the next audiobook. The kids were dazzled by the sweet shop across the street from the library, so they each picked a treat and planned their next visit to a chocolate factory. We also spotted a rainbow on the way home. Only Roald Dahl could write such a magical day. #RaisingReaders
I read this as a child. I tried to reread it but had to stop. It simply got ridiculous and didn't keep my attention.
While I can still say I've never read a Dahl book I didn't like, this doesn't hold a candle to the first Charlie Bucket book. I enjoyed it and remembered liking it as a child, but it almost feels like two stories smashed together and kind of made me dislike the family that I was so fond of in the first book.
"A little nonsense now and then, is relished by the wisest men," Mr Wonka said. p 100

I remember picking this up in grade school reading the first few chapters and never finishing it. This weekend I finally put that to rights, and in classic Roald Dahl fashion the story is creative, odd, funny, and a little touch dark. I thought it was great.
