Just grabbed this on a whim. I loved The Hidden, so I'm hoping this one has similar vibes.

An unstable new mother with an absentee a-hole husband, and an annoyingly unprofessional police woman with a sad backstory—this book turned out to be a #horror for all the wrong reasons. The MC is supposed to be this embodiment of thoughtless, unconditional love (and mental issues), but I would‘ve sympathized with her more if being in her head wasn‘t so damn exhausting.

I like books about messy people, but there are limits.

Well I‘m glad I borrowed this one from the library. I didn‘t love it. The first half was great, but by the end, I just wanted it to be over. Recommended by #currentlyreadingpodcast but just didn‘t work for me. Oh well 🤷🏻‍♀️ Rating around 3 ⭐️

This is an odd mix of fairy story and police procedural, with a layer of postpartum psychosis and "cop who plays by her own rules". I enjoy the uncertainty Golding weaves in, never letting her readers feel confident that they know whose viewpoint to trust. A couple of times she tells the same detail twice or she explains just a little more than necessary, and there's a superfluous romantic subplot, but otherwise, it's a fun, creepy novel.

One of my many views while listening to the tagged book. Unfortunately, my own kids' homeschool and substitute teaching a writing class this afternoon is going to mess up my preferred rainy-day plan (blankets, kitty snuggles, audiobook, warm beverage, maybe some crocheting). The teaching is good stuff, don't get me wrong, but it's not a cat and a blanket.

Well-written, the author keeps up a fast pace, & the line between what was actually happening and what could be happening was tantalisingly blurred. However, I found some aspects a little hard to believe, i.e. the apparent ease with which Lauren escaped a secure mental health unit with two babies in tow. Also Patrick - what a lowlife. 3.5🌟

It was just an ok read for me

On my way to finishing my 3rd book of the year. A couple of my holds came in right after I started this one, so I had to put is aside for about a week but it is really good so far! I have started getting the audio and the text so I can listen when I am working/cleaning/driving etc. and read while I am relaxing. It really has been a game changer for me! Anyone else do this?

That's it? This book received so much positive feedback on the BOTM members FB page that I decided to give it a go.
Maybe I expected more because it was so hyped but this book was really underwhelming for me. I am absolutely baffled about where all of the recommendations are coming from. With the book's reputation proceeding it, I dove in. And... I'm confused. ⬇️

45 pages in... Hoping it picks up soon.

I've been craving books lately that leave me a little creeped out and unsettled once I finish them, and this dark tale of twins and changelings did the trick.

There are parts that become very graphic, so if that's not your thing stay away from this one. However, if you enjoy dark gritty tales that mix reality and folklore, I highly recommend this one.

Delightfully unsettling. A blend of Grimm fairytales and domestic noir, with a heavy dose of unreliable narrator, Golding weaves a tale of the horror of motherhood. Is a mysterious woman trying to steal Lauren‘s twins or is she wrestling postpartum, depression and exhaustion playing tricks on her mind? A gripping, compelling story. 5⭐️ #netgalley

The birth scene was way too much for me. The story lost me after this and I honestly didn't give a crap about the main character.

One of the creepiest books I‘ve read all year. I‘m not sure if it‘s because I have a newborn, lots of it takes place in a hospital ands where I was when reading it, or because it‘s just downright nightmarish.. but YIKES!

Just too weird and I can predict the two possible endings already

I found this to be a delightfully creepy and atmospheric story. We aren‘t sure if the main character is hallucinating while suffering from postpartum depression or if something sinister really is going on. Is there a woman actually trying to steal her babies and swap them with changelings?
A bit unreliable narrator and a bit Grimm‘s Fairytales make for an engaging read.

Female author's are just killing it this year and another book added to my favourites of 2019! Hands down the creepiest, most unsettling and disturbing book I've read so far this year. At once both terrifying and heartbreaking, Melanie Golding weaves a compulsively readable, frightening atmospheric modern day psychological thriller from the tendrils of dark folklore and grim fairy tales. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #netgalley #goodreads #seasonalreadingchallenge

Lauren gives birth to twins, then a creepy woman tries to steal them. As the story unfolds, Golding hits on just the right amount of ambiguity so you don‘t know for sure what‘s happening. A fun, creepy mystery.

After seeing the synopsis for this new release, I was very excited to read it. It sounded super creepy, and I was not let down. This fast-paced psychological thriller was definitely creepy and disturbing (in a non-gore way). I read it in one sitting and got goosebumps multiple times I loved the dark fairy tale magical realism aspect to it. The ending was fantastic, and I hope Melanie Golding writes more novels.

I‘m reading Six Scary Stories and Little Darlings. I‘m also listening to Dad is Fat. Jim Gaffigan is such a funny guy!

I wonder if I am the only one who felt a strong desire to punch Patrick after reading this.

Newborn twins. Lauren is barely sleeping. But poor Patrick. He was just hoping for a night, just one, where he didn‘t have to wake up at all.

The entire page has me ready to divorce him for Lauren‘s sake!
