Maybe in Another Life: A Novel | Taylor Jenkins Reid

Pickpick

I didn‘t mean to fly thru this in one day but couldn‘t help it once I got started. The story is told in two POV‘s-two options for Hannah‘s life after making different decisions at a pivotal moment. I‘m not sure how TJR makes her stories so thought-provoking while keeping them so meaningful and entertaining, but she always manages to pull it off. Although not the main point of the story, Hannah‘s realizations about her parents resonated deeply…

intothehallofbooks …with me. For Hannah, she learned to be firm with her parents when they wanted to act like they were great parents but were never even sources of support. I always find at least one character in Reid‘s stories that I feel connected to because of shared life experiences, which feels good and makes for a better reading experience. 4d

I‘ve enjoyed getting started with TJR‘s books this year, starting with her way-backlist. This is my third from her, after After I Do and Forever, Interrupted.

I particularly love choosing her books during weeks when I have a lot of work commuting because the audiobooks are so great. That‘s what I‘ll be doing this week-listening during the day and reading with my eyes in the evenings. #currentlyreading

Reggie I love the toast that guy makes saying he hopes he ends up with her in every timeline. Super sweet. 5d
intothehallofbooks @Reggie Yes!! I loved that part too. 4d

Oliver Saks meets The Twilight Zone. I loved this twisty, turny, psychological, philosophical novel. An extraordinary patient comes in to a psychiatrist‘s office, and he is not sure if what‘s she‘s seeing is real. It reminded me of one of my favorite books ever, Into the Silent Lands by Paul Broks.

I really enjoyed this twisty novel that plays with genres and keeps you guessing. I thought the decision to write it as a mix of a doctor‘s notes and the main characters letters was unique and fit well.

Karisa Thanks for this review! I was in need of a new read and after reading this found it available on Libby. So good! 😊 2mo

The Strange Case of Jane O. | Karen Thompson Walker

Either Jane is suffering some sort of psychosis or she is occasionally hopping, or rather sensing, alternate universe versions of her life. Told entirely by her psychiatrist's case notes and her own letters to her infant son. Weird and very interesting.

65/100 Its been awhile since I've read any Frederik Pohl, I'd forgotten what a talented writer he was. This is a story of parallel worlds, of characters meeting various versions of themselves as the wall between the dimensions begins to falter. It is a little confusing at times, multiple POVs with the same name and all told in first person, but it's worth sticking with for the solid conclusion. 4 ⭐ #Read2025

Familiar: A Novel | J. Robert Lennon

I really enjoyed the premise of this novel - a woman grieving the loss of her teenage son finds herself in a parallel universe where her son is alive, an adult and estranged from her. She spends the novel trying to find out who this alternate version of herself is and how she got to this point. Mesmerising and unsettling! I wish I had figured out more about this woman in the parallel universe and what motivated her decisions in the past ⬇️

Centique but just such an interesting, mind-bending concept. 5mo
Reggie Now I have to read it to find out how theyre estranged. Stacked. 5mo

Centique @Reggie also this background photo is the roof of what was a church but it got badly damaged in the christchurch earthquake in 2010. It was taken over and made into a pub, its called The Church and it has lots of LBGTQIA events and still has all of its fancy windows and big church organ etc. A hugely fun place with live music 🙌 5mo
