Had this on my TBR for a year. Finally decided it was time to pick it up, like many others in the country are doing right now. This is reading like a horror story in today's political climate. Who needs serial killers when the government is on the loose?

Answering the call for books/bookish moments that bring #joy from @kmdartist . I love the #joy I get when I find a new favorite author with a large backlist of work. Terry Pratchett is my latest personal find. After reading his first novel in the series the rest of the books lay ahead of me like an exciting quest with a good friend. I can't wait to hear about everyone else's moments. What authors have given you this joy?

BookishMarginalia The JD Robb books penned by Nora Roberts give me #joy -- and there are 40+ of them! 8y
moranadatter I haven't read much Pratchett, but my IRL book club chose Hogfather for December so I'm reading that now and enjoying it quite a bit. 8y
Megabooks Liane moriarty, elinor lipman, rainbow Rowell 8y
KellyReece @Ebooksandcooks and @BookishMarginalia all great picks! Haven't picked up JD Robb or Liane Moriarty yet, but they are definitely on the TBR list. 8y

Found my cure for my post-election blues, ya'll. Had this book on my TBR and decided to give it a try. Only problem is that I'm listening to the audiobook at work and have to keep pausing to keep from busting out laughing like a lunatic. Honestly crying I'm holding so much laughter in. Thanks Jenny Lawson, I needed this bad. Also, here's a pic of me torturing my dog with Snapchat filters. Another of my coping mechanisms.

First things first- this is pure brain candy. Full of themes and ideas I've seen and heard elsewhere, but mashed up in a new way. Most compare this book to Firefly and that comparison holds up well. Since Whedon is not furthering the Firefly story I will take what I can get. It is about a scrappy mechanic who swindles a passage to the outer planets and finds a family in her crew mates on the way. Worth a try for all Firefly diehards.

KellyReece PS - the next book comes out early next year. 8y

Wow. 5/5, amazing. There is already a ton of praise out there for this book. So instead I will focus on what might prevent someone from picking this up. For those with trigger warnings there is violence and rape, because how could there not be. However, it is done with some reserve. Whitehead explains what happens without getting into gory adjectives which is where I get queasy. If you're game, give it a try. It is a very moving story.

KellyReece P.S. The audiobook was amazing! Great narrator. 8y

Taking a trip to Disney World this year so I wanted to know more about the man who made it all possible. I grew up idolizing Walt and the company's creations. This bio is a comprehensive and unbiased look at him. It shows the good and the bad. My feelings toward him are much more complex after reading this book. At the same time I have much more appreciation for his visions. Best bio I've ever read on him.

My late night read and snuggle buddy. Cursed child was good. I liked having more to the story and getting to be with those characters again. However, I was not a fan of the format. I wanted more to the story, not just a script. Some of the dialogue did not fit the characters well in my mind. I don't know if that is because of being rushed or the two accompanying authors. If you keep expectations low this book can be enjoyed. It is a fast read.

4/5 Stars. Finished season 4 and just needed more of this story. The book is tame compared to what Kenji has created. Still a very interesting and eye opening look at the prison system and drug offenders in particular. Our county needs to pay attention and work on this. Audiobook was great.

Wonderfully woven tale. Many historical figures and places that enrich the story. Sherlock fans, read this!

Super cute take on Sherlock. Supposes the characters were real and follows their grandchildren's adventure. I'd call this mature YA. Little sex and drug use mentioned all throughout the book. Nothing too graphic though. Nice light sleuth read.

Most know what this book about so I won't give a summary. What I loved about this book is that Coates did not give us a way to fix the problem. The problem is too big and complex. Acknowledging the problem is a big first step. This book lets you see the US with fresh eyes. Read it!

I liked her writing, but couldn't get over the author's attitude. I needed more insight to understand her life choices which just wasn't provided. It is the author's right to her privacy, but this is a memoir after all. Feel like she didn't share with us the whole truth.

I nearly cried through this whole book. Not because the stories were all emotional, but because they were so amazing. I can't fathom a writer so great was taken from us at such a young age. A true loss. Keegan's voice was amazing and lent an intimate voice to fiction and a passion to nonfiction.

Listening to Andrew Luck's first pick for his new book club. Really great book. I would not have picked this one up on my own. The things that the main character overcame and to then compete in the olympics is amazing. I'm by no means an athlete and this book is super interesting!

I'd describe the book as Dickens meets Harry Potter. The book is chock full of details of the world. The magic part and plot was a win for me, however the dickens-like style of writing weighed it down a bit. If you're a Dickens fan and like magic look into this book. Just wasn't a top book for me.
