Fantastic and easily read story bringing heart and soul to Red Cross volunteers in Europe during WWII.
Such a fun book! Two whodoneit plots and filled with writers, an editor and a publisher—very British.
“an imagination left alone in the dark can be a terrible thing.” Samantha Whipple
I‘m eating up this novel!! What fun. Thank you, Ms. Lowell.
I fell into this book when the acknowledgement made me pause...a box in my soul came unhinged.
“I‘ve spent my whole life trying to make my faith easy. It‘s not. What I‘m trying to do now is make it simple.”
This was highly recommended, so I‘m looking forward to a fun Saturday read. Love historical fiction!
It‘s the weekend, and I‘m diving in!
I so appreciated Kristin Hannah staging a plot around the traumas faced by Vietnam Veterans. As the daughter of a Vietnam vet, it‘s rare that I can read about their characterizations, but this sad tale kept me hooked.
“A scent you couldn‘t forget no matter how hard you didn‘t want to remember.”
Reading this crazy, fun novel in anticipation of Mary Kay Andrews new novel due out soon!
Rick Bragg is the voice of the Southern soul. His sentences put flesh on a myth and remind us of the magic of words. Brilliant, haunting, and unforgettable.
Enjoyed this “gothic” novel and it‘s complicated drama. Beautifully written.
So enjoying reading this cookbook! Can already tell you that Yoste Roast is s new family favorite!
5 Stars. Enjoyed every moment spent within the pages of this book. Mitford is my happy place
I thought this was such an incredible story, I forgot it was based on a real woman's journey. My imagination kept dovetailing with the movie, Out of Africa, which might have been the author's intent. I'll be thinking about this complicated, riddle of a character for quite some time. I fully expect a movie.
"They floated into dinner on a tide of Champagne" Peter Mayle--I've read and lived through all your books from Year in Provence onward. I'm just saying, any time you need to fill a seat for a dinner party, I can be there. Sincerely, Kimberly
Lovely, tender story. Lisa Wingate peeled back the curtain on an ugly chapter in the south's cultural story and let its soul free.
"America...Too much smiling. Too much emotion on parade. It was a young country. It mistook the theatre of expression for honesty."
Found this treasure at Gladewater Books yesterday. One of those swayed shelf used book stores that save the bestsellers (and some not so bestsellers) from the past for #book lovers to discover all over again.
What a mesmerizing novel. Artful blend of fact and fiction, revealing the "what ifs" in a brilliant authors life.
By chapter three, I'm totally sucked into the WWII homefront dramas facing good people along the Great Lakes.
A friend recommended this #historical fiction. Can't wait to settle into a comfy chair for a good read.
Read this for research on my novel, The Big Inch. Going to listen to Bill O'Neal speak tonight on the Texas History at UTTyler at Longview campus. Bet I come home with good material
I'm reading this book and it asked the question " how many creative people do you know and from which mediums." I thought for a few minutes, replaying a photo album of friends and their various arts from painting, to music, sculpture, fabrics, and words and was stunned by the volume of creative fiends in my life. What a blessing! I hope to tell them all how their creativity inspires me.
Riiding in the sleeper car as dawn had broken through the scrappy limbs of pines between Arkansas and Texas , she'd wondered yet again why she'd let Colonel Theo Marks talk her into this assignment.
