I came down with Covid on Saturday, today I ventured outside for some fresh air. Still can‘t quite focus on my book but it comforts me to carry it with me. I only had one bad, bad, BAD day but it sure has knocked the stuffing out of me.

This dedication pushed me over the edge. Once I read the acknowledgements. & went back to this... My heart exploded ❤

I had put off reading this book because "I don't like high fantasy." Well, still probably true, but this book was the exception. The characters are so well written, that I sincerely have a strong positive emotional response to all of them: the good & the bad guys. Some of the writing was too flowery for me, but still wow ?

Have you ever put off reading a book series because it's just not in your preferred genre? I'm kicking myself for not having read A Court Of Thorns and Roses sooner. So good!!

The.Great.Catsby That is EXACTLY how I am feeling after just finishing this book. Read Throne of Glass, didn't like it, so I assumed I didn't like high fantasy. Well, I loved this! 6d

While not as good as ToG in my opinion, this is a very imaginative and intriguing retelling of Beauty and the Beast. A reread for me actually but my initial read was so long ago, I couldnt remember anything lol. I am interested to see where the series goes! It did feel rushed in some areas, but I can understand why from a plot standpoint.

I don‘t know why it took me so long to read this book — especially since it‘s a very good Beauty and the Beast retelling. I loved all of the characters and how it leaned so heavily into the fairy tale elements (magic, mystery, darkness, trials by three, transformations).

I already ordered the next book!

So, to be completely honest I didn't think I would like this book as much as I did. I really did not get that much into it until the middle to end of book. Trust me I thought it was all hype because so many people are like this series is amazing. I get it now. It really is great. I don‘t read a lot of romance books. Which is kind of funny since I‘m single and have cats so you would think it‘s part of the aesthetic lol 😆. But overall enjoyed 🥰

Hi everyone!

So I just wanted to have a quick little discussion about this book. I‘m enjoying it so far but my only question is why is this book in the YA category? I'm an adult and I'm not a prude or anything but in my opinion, it's a little too explicit to be categorized as YA. (Then again I grew up reading Twilight & Harry Potter etc.) Any opinions would be great! Would love to discuss it. 🌹

kplovesbooks I literally have no idea why it's labeled as YA. I agree with you. And while the series itself gets way more interesting as it goes, the sex gets more graphic. 🤷 3mo
Anya91 @kplovesbooks I‘ve been googling the question because I‘m kind short confused. Like I finished chapter 22 last night and in my head I was like what is happening. 3mo

3.5⭐️ I finally gave in and had to see what all the hype was about. I enjoyed it but didn‘t love it. Had a hard time getting into the first half of the book but I did like the world building. The ending definitely picked up and kept me interested enough to pick up book number two. Hoping it just keeps getting better. Also, so glad my library had this cover. The one with the faceless girl on the front really bugs me. Anyone else agree?

KateReadsYA I definitely like these covers so much more. Book 2 was my favorite read this year so far. I hope you enjoy it more than book 1! I was obsessed with this series after book 2 🤩 3mo

5feet.of.fury @BarkingMadRun I honestly, didn‘t LOVE the 1st one (it really picks up in the second half) but the 2nd &3rd I couldn‘t put down. So good. had to save the last 2 because I couldn‘t concentrate on life 🙃 haha 4mo

So one of the reasons I have been a bit absent from Litsy is because I ended up in a Sarah J Maas rabbit hole. Blame this one. Totally started an obsession. Sooo glad I decided to take the time to read this series before carrying on with book 2 of the Crescent City…

I am calling this a re-review because I originally read it in 2015. Before I reread it, I looked at my review from back in the day to see how it hit back then. I was pleasantly surprised. I understand why so many people are still coming to this series. Feyre as a character speaks to my heart, and embodies everything a strong female character should be. And to me, this book will always be the one that all fairy tale retellings have to live up to.

Such a struggle to get through. Yes I‘m out of the target age range but YA is no excuse for poor writing and storytelling. The pages long exposition dumps… c‘mon.

Unpopular opinion: I did not like this book. The first half was fun albeit somewhat eye roll worthy. The second half was nonsensical. Feyre has no agency except to be stupid? I half wanted her dead by the end. Tamlin is your typical alpha until the second half when he becomes practically nonexistent. I did like Lucien. I ended up listening on 3x speed just to get it over with. Had to finish since I want to read Crescent City 2. #acotar #yafantasy

DGRachel I agree wholeheartedly. I hated this book. So. Much. 5mo

RiverKScottWrites @sprainedbrain I don‘t make a habit of it! I like 1.2–1.3x generally. This was an exception 😤 5mo

RiverKScottWrites @K_Huskic I‘m loving book 2! I am contemplating writing a Too-Much-Hate-Didn‘t-Read post full of all the book 1 spoilers you need to read book 2 so people can just skip book 1. 4mo

Parts of this book were really good, but parts of it were not good. I appreciated that the main character grew, but the growth came all at once, and didn‘t really make sense with the story line to me.
Feyre kills a wolf to feed her family, and becomes part of a chain of events that could see war brought to humans and see the Fae on her continent ruled by a tyrant.
2.5/5. Read if you like mythical retellings and enemies to lovers troupes.
