The Magic Strings of Frankie Presto
The Magic Strings of Frankie Presto: A Novel | Mitch Albom
Mitch Albom creates his most unforgettable fictional characterFrankie Presto, the greatest guitarist to ever walk the earthin this magical novel about the bands we join in life and the power of talent to change our lives. An epic story of the greatest guitar player to ever live, and the six lives he changed with his magical blue strings. In Alboms most sweeping novel yet, the voice of Music narrates the tale of its most beloved disciple, young Frankie Presto, a war orphan raised by a blind music teacher in a small Spanish town. At nine years old, Frankie is sent to America in the bottom of a boat. His only possession is an old guitar and six precious strings. But Frankies talent is touched by the gods, and his amazing journey weaves him through the musical landscape of the 20th century, from classical to jazz to rock and roll, with his stunning talent affecting numerous stars along the way, including Hank Williams, Elvis Presley, Carole King, Wynton Marsalis and even KISS. Frankie becomes a pop star himself. He makes records. He is adored. But his gift is also his burden, as he realizes, through his music, he can actually affect peoples futureswith one string turning blue whenever a life is altered. At the height of his popularity, Frankie Presto vanishes. His legend grows. Only decades later, does he reappearjust before his spectacular deathto change one last life. With its Forest Gump-like romp through the music world, The Magic Strings of Frankie Presto is a classic in the making. A lifelong musician himself, Mitch Albom delivers a remarkable novel, infused with the message that everyone joins a band in this life and those connections change us all.

So glad I finally read this one! Mitch Albom weaved a beautiful story of Frankie Presto‘s life from birth to death. A life filled with moments of happiness and even fame along with losses and tragedy. Parts of the story are told by famous musicians in attendance of Frankie‘s funeral. Clever writing style with lots of emotion and passion. 💜🎸 🎼 #MountTBR

SOOOOOO freaking good!! So often I wished I owned this book in hardcover to highlight quotes rather than be reading a library ebook. Ate this one up in a day and a half! Such a good one!!

I really enjoyed this one. Narrated by music itself, it tells like little puzzle pieces coming together, or perhaps more appropriately, little notes coming together to form a song. Lovely, and, despite its appearance, a quick read.

You know when you gift someone a book that was very special to you and you know is perfect for them and then they never read it. Or worse, they don't even acknowledge receiving it in the mail until you ask them. That's it...Frankie Presto...a gift to a wonderful musician friend. The other two were wonderfully received. :)

This was a book club pick. Think of a musical Forrest Gump meets The Five People You Meet in Heaven.

I like Mitch Albom, but he's definitely got a theme that works for him. I enjoyed most of the story, but there seemed to be an awful lot of tragedy that was just for the reader until the very end of the book. And the end twist felt a little contrived and unnecessary to me. But the audiobook was really fantastic. 🌕🌕🌕🌗🌑

What a heartfelt story! Albom creates the intricate story of Frankie Presto's peculiar life and his unyielding connection with music. And it is Music that narrates Frankie's life. It reminds us of the wonderful impact that music has on people's lives and that true love is unconditional. The story breaks and mends the heart and the fact that real musicians participated in its creation is just the cherry on top of a brilliant book.

I wasn‘t prepared for how good this audio book would be. It's one of the best books that I have ever listened to -more like a play rather than a book. Mitch Albom read the part of the narrator (Music) who is telling the story of the life of a fictional guitar player named Frankie Presto. At his funeral, musicians like Ingrid Michaelson and Lyle Lovett tell stories about his life. It was a wonderful book and I enjoyed listening to every minute!

It was magical when you read his novel, feels like a symphony and melody came into life producing a music that never once in your life that you could hear through words. Paragraphs and pages are songs and chapters and characters are lyrics, like a music diving vibrant frequencies in our ears; the love stood shine in the heart of the audience – the readers, those who are broken, those who are in pain and those who are doubtful and they accept it.
