Breath of Snow and Ashes
Breath of Snow and Ashes | Diana Gabaldon
This sixth novel in Diana Gabaldon s bestselling Outlander saga is a masterpiece of historical fiction from one of the most popular authors of our time."A Breath of Snow and Ashes" continues the extraordinary story of 18th-century Scotsman Jamie Fraser and his 20th-century wife, Claire. The year is 1772, and on the eve of the American Revolution, the long fuse of rebellion has already been lit. Men lie dead in the streets of Boston, and in the backwoods of North Carolina, isolated cabins burn in the forest. With chaos brewing, the governor calls upon Jamie Fraser to unite the backcountry and safeguard the colony for King and Crown. But from his wife Jamie knows that three years hence the shot heard round the world will be fired, and the result will be independence with those loyal to the King either dead or in exile. And there is also the matter of a tiny clipping from "The Wilmington Gazette," dated 1776, which reports Jamie s death, along with his kin. For once, he hopes, his time-traveling family may be wrong about the future. "From the Hardcover edition.""

Book #6 in the Outlander series. And very aptly named I‘d say. Lots of snow, lots of fire…lots of learning peoples true intentions. I‘ve really enjoyed following along with the lives of the Fraser‘s.

I've been having a hard time adulting and instead living on Fraser's Ridge for the last couple of weeks. How do you keep from jumping right into the next book? Can you tell I've been living in that chair? Time to be in the present... for as long as I can stand it. #chunksterchallenge

I really enjoyed it but now the show isn't as good this season. I guess I knew it wouldn't be after I read the book. I didn't like Claire as much in the book. I really like Ian. I give this book 4.5 🔶

I'm this far into my April #chunksterchallenge
I didn't read at all last week, I couldn't go through the scene Claire endures with Hodge and his gang. I was just too exhausted from running a book fair and a book drive while teaching. But now I'm on my #springbreak and I can sit outside if the wind doesn't blow. In the next few days I'll catch up with some picture books (the library would like them back, they've written twice).

Spring break is coming. I've made 32% of my reading goal for this year & 92% of that is kidlit. I'm 38 days ahead of schedule, it's time to join the #chunksterchallenge2022
I'll start on this paperback and then when I get tired, download it to my kindle. #bookishproblems #outlander #reread

mandarchy 😊 thanks! I'm just visiting for a couple of weeks. I read a lot of kidlit, but sometimes I just need to adult. 5mo

Finally finished this! Took a lot of effort over two weeks where I had tons of other stuff going on, so am pretty proud of myself. While it could have benefited from some editing, this series is a real comfort read for me and I liked it a lot. It also explained a lot of what happened in season 5 of the show, although I‘m scratching my head a little at how the story seems to be diverging.

#SullivanCat can barely lean on this book, it‘s so big 😹

Scochrane26 If you haven‘t read the Lord John series & her short stories, you may want to before reading the next one. 10mo

Yesterday was an amazing day for roof reading! I have less than 200 pages left in this monster and am trying to finish it this weekend. After a slow, albeit entertaining, middle section the action is seriously ramping up!!

Started this behemoth this weekend. I‘d put it off forever because it‘s just so LONG, but am 170 pages in and it‘s actually so comforting to be back with these familiar characters.

I have finally finished Vol. 6 in the Outlander series: A Breath of Snow and Ashes! I would listen to it at the end of a month when I had already read my #BS and #DS, so it took awhile. Anyway, it was wonderful. #109 #BookSpinBingo #23 #BFC21 #1 #SERIES2021 #FALLINTOREADING #SERIESSEPTEMBER

It has taken me 3 solid days to get to the end of this. You know it's good when you instantly download the next book. Kidnappings (yes plural) the return of characters, departing characters, and amidst the turmoil the protagonists stay rooted to one another as the American Civil War rapidly erupts around them. So much better than the TV series - which i know is loved (although Sam Heughan is particularly easy in the eye!)

I'm SO late, but thank you for tagging/including me, @DarkMina!

1. A Breath of Snow and Ashes by Diana Gabaldon (Historical Fiction)
2. Thumbs up! 👍🏻 - I love the mix of historical events, magical time travel, and herbalism. 🌿
3. Historical Fiction is probably my favorite, but I also love a good mystery thriller.

I won't tag anyone since I'm so late, but thanks for letting me play!

Shae_Purcell I just finished this one a couple days ago! Waiting on my copy of An Echo in the Bone to arrive any day now. 14mo
jackilynn @spharo I am lucky that I own the next book but I haven't decided if I want to immediately dive right into the next one. I am still processing this one lol 14mo
Shae_Purcell @jackilynn My copy came in yesterday, but I haven't started it yet either. Mostly because I know it's going to be a long read. I'm not great at reading multiple books or stories at once, so I'm thinking I might have a light/fun read in-between. Looking forward to hearing what you think about it once you start! 14mo

I first borrowed Outlander for a trip several years ago. It's a big book and I'm NOT a fast reader, so I put it to the side. A few years later I picked it up again, ready to try the series, not knowing I'd be reading about the Fraser family for years to come. I love the way Diana Gabaldon writes, so descriptive it draws me in completely. While this book does have adventure and scandal, I loved most the stories of life and family on Fraser's Ridge.

DivineDiana One day, I will read the series! 14mo

In honor of World Outlander Day I think it is about time I dive back into that series. I have been reading about 1 a year for the last several years because they are such beasts. Summer is the perfect time too because I have way more time to devote to reading.

BrittanyReads I need to do the same haha 😬 1y
jackilynn @BrittanyReads glad to see I'm not alone lol 1y
CoverToCoverGirl I‘ve read them all twice and listened to them all on audio...such epic books 📚 1y
jackilynn @CoverToCoverGirl I have enjoyed all of them so far (except for Dragonfly in Amber, I struggled with that one). My biggest thing is that since they are all so big it takes me longer to read & I am easily distracted by all the shiny new books I could be reading instead hence the 1 a year lol 1y
CoverToCoverGirl @jackilynn shiny new books are definitely a real thing! I knock off ten from my TBR pile and twenty more get added.. 🤭🙂 1y

mandarchy I am not going to lie, I skimmed over all the American revolution stuff. I'm just bored by war lit. When I got to the last book I was really satisfied to be finished. And then I started to think of all the loose ends. 1y
TheSpineView @mandarchy I hadn't thought of just skimming through the rest. Good idea! Though I am not happy to hear that there are a bunch of loose ends. 1y
mandarchy @TheSpineView it's okay, we are all waiting for the next book. I thought the last book was the last book. Then when I started realizing all of the loose ends, I looked into it and found out she was writing another book. It's killing me! I hope this next book really is the last. I love the series, but I normally don't read series. I have too many stands alones to read. 1y
TheSpineView @mandarchy Got it! Thanks! 😊 1y
Shae_Purcell @mandarchy I think this next book is the 9th of the series and the author has committed to writing ten books total (not counting the spin-off series). So one more to go after the release in November! 1y

This is my second read of this book and I enjoyed it just as much as the first time around. I felt I was transported to the Ridge and could have lived there quite happily. I‘m not sure whether to read something else or leap straight into the next one. I have never read further than this book and I‘m a bit apprehensive.

UglyOldBat This was as far as I got too. I have the next two sitting waiting to be read. Maybe now is the time to take the plunge? 🤔 2y

Enjoyed this the second time around just as much as the first. I truly believe the reason I love this series so much is because of the audiobooks. Davina Porter is extremely talented and I adore all the voices she has for different characters. I do hope she's able to to record the rest of the series once the additional books have been released. I just can't see myself listening to another narrator for this series.

I met my goal and finished it before my vacation started. I am excited to see what happens next.

Kloves2read Great series! But I am unfortunately stuck on The Fiery Cross. I tried reading it and I and couldn‘t finish it. I always feel guilty not finishing a book, so then I tried the audio version. I can‘t get into an audio book. My next step is to listen to the audio version while reading the book. 🤣 2y
